Hi all

I'm new to this after having planes and cars i have moved to heli.

I have the following...

T-Rex 600 Pro Nitro
OSX 50 Engine
Spectrum DX7

I have been reading about governor's what is it and what does it do, and more important do i need it.

I will start to practice fly , normal flying then move to more 3D style if i'm any good.:clappp

Short answer, you set a desired headspeed and the governor controls the throttle servo to maintain that speed as close as possible.

You do not need a gov right away, it's only going to complicate your build. I would learn the basics of flying before installing one.

thank you for the reply!

so its just to set a certain speed then you can concentrate on moves!!

thanks for the advice.

The major advantage is more consistent headspeed during 3D maneuvers which results in less head bog. If you don't fly 3D yet, you really won't see any advantage from a gov.

One thing I would do, though, is to upgrade to the metal fan and install the magnets that come with it before balancing the fan. If you don't do this and decide to add a governor later, you'll have to rebalance the fan. I would prefer to only have to balance it once.

The alum fan is a Align upgrade, so any Align dealer.

Just make sure you glue the magnets in the right way. One north and one south polarity. It doesn't matter which magnet is in whichhole, just as long as they N and S.

Oh and remember to balance the fan with the clutch shoes attached ;)

Are the magnets universal? I am undecided on what governor to get and may put off the purchase until a later date, but I would rather get everything balanced now. Installing just the sensor looks like an easy install after everthing is built.

Thanks

As far as I know, all governors use the same type of sensor, which senses magnetic fields in a certain direction. I'd say you're safe putting them on there now; just make sure you have one oriented with its north pole up and the other with its south pole up. The advantage to having both on there, other than for balance purposes, is that you don't have to worry about the magnetic direction your governor sensor is expecting: it will pick up one or the other and it doesn't matter which.

THE BUM,

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "BALANCING THE FAN???

I HAVE IN MINE A METAL FAN AND NO IDEA ABOUT BALANCING.
I THINK ITS JUST RUNNING PERFECT

CAN YOU CLEAR PLIZ?

In the UK, take a look at www.quickuk.eu - they produce a gret metal fan and sell the magnets for it separately

First of all, PLEASE STOP SHOUTING.

Secondly, for fan balancing, I'll refer you to Finless's T-Rex 600N build video where he discusses fan balancing:

Even though your fan is metal instead of plastic, it will likely need balancing to minimize vibrations. Take a look at how much material I had to take off my metal Align fan. Yours may not be this bad.

As far as I know the magnets all seem to be the same, but my Gov only uses one magnet where most others I have seen use two. So If you Buy a CSM revlock 20 Governor later on you can only have one magnet epoxied in your fan, polarity doesn't matter. Then you can buy a little weight that is the same size as the magnet for the other hole in your fan to help balance it.

Thanks for the info and tips. I was considering either the GV1 or the Multigov. (leaning towards the Multigov at the moment) Both appear to use magnets that are the same size. My fan has 2 spots for 4mm magnets.

I have the Multigov and used the magnets included with the fan.
