View Full Version : Receiver light flashing

I have a minor issue with my 6100. After multiple times of binding and having a successful acknowledgment I continue to get a flashing led indication. Binding has two rates of flash. First very quick flash, then a slower flash. The receiver goes through this process fine. However if I replace the battery after a flight and plug it back in, the receiver shows a flashing led. The flash rate is both on and off over a period of 1 second. In other words on for half a second and on for half a second. The response is normal with the light flashing and the bird flies well but I am a bit concerned about it. Does this flashing mean that there was a mode on the transmitter when activated? Does it have something to do with the battery status? Perhaps a spike. Well I have tried all modes on the transmitter, and as I said at first I have rebound the receiver many times. Does anyone know what this is>?

We had another guy post with a similar problem. In that case, he had not removed the binding plug. :arggg:
Make sure you remove the binding plug once you have completed the bind process.
If that is not the problem, I assume you will need to speak with Horizon Hobby tech support.

If this is a brand new Rx and you are plugging in the fresh pack within about 30 seconds, you are seeing the Rx telling you that it lost power. This is a new feature, that tells that you have the latest firmware. Some 6100s will have a v1.6 sticker on the end by the antennas to tell you this also.
During binding there is the quick flash until the Rx starts talking to the Tx, then a slow flash, then the LED goes out, then it comes back on solid. I hold the bind button on the Tx until I get the solid LED during binding.

Thanks Terry you are exactly right! There is a 1.6 sticker on the receiver and the symptoms are exactly as you described. I was thinking that the flashing led meant either loss of power or a voltage drop below a defined point. And this is exactly what it is.
I had not heard about the software version change and I have 3 receivers. Two of them are new with v1.6 and the older receiver does not flash under these circumstances.
I do the bind similar to you in that i hold the bind button in until I have a steady light.
Just one question with new version..... When the receiver goes into this mode, I cant seem to get it back to normal without re-binding. Is this correct, or do I just wait 5 minutes or so>?
I appreciate your info.

If you remove power for more than about 30 seconds, it will be fine.
Of course, if you fumble the power connection at start up, as in tapping the connectors before getting them plugged in, it will flash.
You can try power cycling the Tx, while the Rx is off to get it to stop. This can cause the Tx to pick different channels and the Rx will have to scan for them.

My receiver has a sticker V1.2:confused:
What happened to version 1.3 to 1.5??????
What is the difference between 1.2 and 1.6? I havn't found any info on this anywhere, not even the Spektrum website. Is my V1.2 AR6100 the old one that does take quite some time to reboot if it has a voltage drop?
Thanks in advance.

According to Horizon/Spektrum the v1.6 was started by a vendor and isn't the actual number.
BUT, they did add Quick Connect somewhere between v1.2 and the latest firmware. So there was at least a v1.3. The latest included the LED indication of low voltage event.

You could be right with the tag Terry I have not heard much about it. So far I have flown around 10 flights with both my v1.2 and v1.6 receivers. I have purposely left the led flash on my v1.6 receiver and I have had no problems. It appears that the flash is just an indicator to let you know that at some point the power went below a measures threshold. Admittedly I am only flying a 450 size so it doesn't go too far away range wise, but there have been no problems what so ever with the radio. (maybe some with my flying, and of course some minor mechanical failures, but never with the radio)

I agree I have had the same thing going on and was not sure what the deal was but after reading these posts I know that if you unplug the pack and shut the radio off then turn it back on and reconnect the battery the LED stays on but I have been flying my 450 size birds with them flashing with no signs of failure.

I read this thread as hesitant, so I'd like to confirm (as documented):
When you leave the TX on, power down (ie swap batt) on the RX, the RX has to assume it had a local power issues. When it comes up and see the same checksum, it reports power loss by flashing. I always cycle my TX power to tell the system I'm on a new flying session. This also resets my timer and will confirm I'm using empty channels. Worse case scenario - somone near by has switched on a 2.4 Ghz camera that indescriminatly uses frequencies, perhaps one of the two my TX had picked. Cycling my TX ensures I'm on two empty channels.
I can't tell you what page it's documented on, I just remember I read through that part:D
check out post #5 here though, rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=684489
goes in depth on TX freq choice.
