View Full Version : 2,3 or 4 Shims Per Side?

My heli came with two on each side and I understand newer ones are coming with up to four.

So, for me, I'm still using +10% Expo on aileron and elevator, would adding shims be a good idea or would it just negate the Expo I'm using?

I like the idea of improving cyclic response because my heli seems mushy and there seems to be a delay when I give inputs.

What do you think, should I add a shim or two per side?

Thanks.

I have mine set up with 3 shims on each side and it seems just right for me.

Mine came with the equivalent of 22 shims per side. I tried 2 shims and thought it was too soft. Now I'm flying 4.

mine came with 2 but after a crash and some slop and with Sokal's suggestion I have 3 per side. Feels good to me.

Thanks for the input, guys.

For those of you that have more than 2 per side are you using any Expo or have you moved past that?

Mike,
I'm no expert so I think 22 shims would be a little stiff for me.;)

Was for me too - I crashed. 4 is fine for me.

On another board I think youthflier said to add shims until the head felt notchy, then back off one or two shims per side.

FWIW, I'm flying with 20% expo.

I actually upped my expo flying in these winds I prefer it a little sluggish current setting = 30% but on a nice day 20% feels better to me.

Im using the same expo that i got from you. They seem to be a perfect match.

Rudderman,

I've changed mine a bunch of times. I'm now at 90% +10% on Aileron and Elevator.
What are you using for Dual Rate and Expo?

Thanks.

I put 8 shims per side and now it flys great no more wobble with side tic tocs now for some carbon main blades.
