Hi
Im just wondering, what with the nitro versus electric thing, costs etc etc.
How long does it take to charge larger Lipo packs like a Mikado Logo 20 or a Real Raptor box conversion would use?
Can they be charged via your car battery at the field, or will they kill it in short order?
I have been flying a fixed pith so far, batteries 2s 1800mah, and they take almost 2 hours to charge at 0.5, which appears to be the recommended charge time. If the larger ones take even longer, wouldnt that mean that unless you have a lot of money for more batteries, that you are grounded and charging a lot of the time?
A few questions there, I love electric, and am building a hummer 3d pro, but want a bigger heli in the future, and am looking at electric versus gasser, not nitro.
Thanks :D

My V2 BOX Raptos ran 10s2p 4000mah pack. At 3/4% discharge it took about 1 hour at 3-3.5 amps to recharge it.

E is more expensive than glow to have a few sets of packs, and they also take a little bit more care and feeding. I have a generator I can take to the flight line, and a couple fo Schulze's so charging was not an issue for me, but keep in mind you will need some serious power to keep your packs all charged. Your car battery is not going to be sufficient unless you leave it running to charge the large packs IMHO and from my experience.

Today I had 4 charges out of my 60ah car battery (not the one that start my car...) of my TP 10s2p prolites (3000ma at 3ah charge rate).
I know it's heavy but a good car battery is all you need.

WOW 4 charges put a hurtin on mine. I was running 2 Schulze most of the day with the second charging 1050mah Duralite Foamie Packs. So the battery setup would work for 10s2p charging 1 at a time. Come to think of it I also was most likely playing the stereo all day as well...disregard me. :DOH

I know Shannon tried the BIG battery setup before he got his generator to manage his Ion-X packs. I guess it might depend on how many packs your heli takes ie. size of your heli, and how many packs you want to charge at one time.

I also use a shulze 330 and charge one pack at a time. I was thinking of buying the 936 to be able to charge 2 packs at once but I'm not sure the car battery will hold shch a high cuurent. At home when I carge with my power supply wich has an ampmeter I can see it thakes 9A to charge a 10s2p at 3A so I gess charging 2 at the same time would require at least 20A wich is quite a lot even for a 60A battery.

Please show me all details about your electric helicopter remote control
I'm in Long an Province (Viet Nam), I haven't got enough economy to buy a new helicopter.
You can take all details your helicopter such us: motor, blade, head, tail clearly so that I can create it easier.
Thank you very much

Thanks again.

LiPo charge at any "C" is, 99% recharge in 79 minutes..

On my TP1010 i charge my tp10s 4000's at 4ah from my 100ah deep cycle "field" battery. Could probable get 4+ charges out of it easy but have never used that many. On quick charge mode they put in around 3ah charge in around 50 minutes. On a smaller ah field battery if the charger errors on low input voltage you just need to drop the charge current although this will take longer to charge.

Running similar setup as Klinger.
TP1010/210 charging 7S and 6S/5S v28 moli packs at 6.5 amps off a 120ah deep cyc. battery. Heavy bugger but does the job. Either way, if you must charge at the field, you're looking at one or more $200+ charger(s) /balancer(s) and a good, reliable deep cycle battery or one of the optima gel's. It costs much much more than nitro in the beginning, but the end result is a clean, quiet and fun flight. :D

A car battery will get a shorter life if deep cycled, it likes to be fully charged all the time. If one doesnt need to deep discharge it often, this solution might still be the cheapest and most handy solution.

Special expensive lead batteries there are designed to be deep cycled is an alternative.

What I found is the best long term solution if one is going to fly a lot with big batteries is to get a 1 or 2KW closed 4 stroke inverter fitted generator, like the expensive Honda generators, or the less expensive Kipor generators. In that way one also have quality high voltage at the field for the toaster, microwave oven, laptop to surf on helifreak.com :-), etc. etc.

My lipo batteries are charged in app. 45 minutes, as I charge them with 1C and only discharge them to a 20-30% discharge state, and take them off the charger some few minutes after the charge current start to fall at app 90% charged level

How many charges can you get from that field battery? Does the battery voltage stay up? I am looking for a deep cycle battery for my 7s Emoli’s at the field and was looking at 2. One 75Ah the other 115Ah

It would probably depend how many charges you want from it. Also even deep cycle batteries dont like going to low so i'd recommend bigger is always better. A larger battery will also hold its voltage higher, longer, which chargers also like.
