Hello all,

I have a Nexus 30 which I never got off the ground. The engine in it was run about 3 times from 2 to 4 minutes on each time. Since then I haven't been able to get started in the hobby until now. I know the Nexus is old and parts are hard to find, I still have two complete kits for spares when needed. Question is, I only have one engine and that has not run since 2001. What should I do to see if it is okay? I thought of taking out the glow plug and see if it works then fire up the engine. Before I do that though, I thought I can see what experienced people would suggest...

I got back into this hobby after 10 years, broke out the old Shuttle XZZ took it apart cleaned and reassembled (I did buy new main blades).

Had an old OS MAX SX on the old bird. Opened up the head and crank added a little oil and worked it free. After 15 to 20 min. it seemed pretty free.

Put it back in the heli, I did clean the old tanks (but that's a story for another time ) changed all fuel lines. Took it to my driveway, got my starter out, added fuel and fired it up. Only had to hit it twice with the starter, it started and sounded great. I did run it rich for the first two tanks, just incase.

You should have no problems, it's hard to kill a old OS

Good luck

Replace the plug and all of the fuel lines including the clunk.

Many thanks for the replies. It turns freely now. In fact it feels and sounds like it did when I bought it. Since I live in germany now, it is a bit hard to just go out and start it.... although I might do this just in the balcony just to see if it starts. I still want to go into electric helios (T-rex 450 or 500), since that is more quieter, but since I already have the Nexus, I want to start learning how to fly. Did a lot of sim time.... from G3 to G3.5 and now G4...

I need a new radio as mine is 72Mhz. I like the upcoming Futaba 10C with the 2.4Ghz. Anyone have any suggestions on a radio? I really want one that I can use on my models weather I fly them in Germany or in USA.

Stick with the SIM, it helps alot.

I still fly with my 12 year old 72Mhz radio, it a JR X-388S. Other than new batts. it was like new. Just a suggestion, but before going electric or new radio just get the old bird out and see how much you enjoy it. Might be just what you need for one season, and will give time for the newer radio's to go down in price. Just a thought.

Have fun :cheers

Well, I am kinda force to get another radio as I live in Germany now. It is illegal to use 72Mhz here... only 35Mhz and 40Mhz is allowed. I can fly really good in the sim... do all of the hovers.... not inverted, but nose in, sides, and tail in. I am trying to get tick-tocks down. Still though, at least 15 minutes per day I practice hovering before anything else.
