Can anyone recommend an online company to order 550 parts from in Canada? I can,t find a LHS around Vancouver B.C. that stocks 550 parts and I am trying to avoid paying duty when buying from the USA. RC-Expert in Hong Kong is taking weeks to answer emails and can't tell me when they will ship or what parts they are waiting for. This is getting very frustrating considering I allready payed with Paypal and can't get a straight answer. If someone has been ordering from the USA to Canada, what level of duty has been applied? I will never crash again!!!

I don't know of a Canadian source.. but flying-hobby.com is hong kong based and ships much faster than rc-expert.

you can also email Gaui from the contact us section of their website and see if they can tell you of a Canadian dealer http://www.gaui.com.tw/en/index.htm

What's that mean? I don't know if U know it or not but your money is worth alot more than American right now. I'd think you'd make out like a badit if you find an american supplier but I haven't, had to go to Hong Kong.

some countries make you pay an import tax (duty or VAT) when you buy something from outside the country. here in the USA we don't have that kind of tax.. so while the dollar might not be as strong as other countries, that extra tax hurts the wallet.
as far as American based dealers for hurricane parts.. readyheli.com is US based.. and there are several others.. you just didn't look to hard
as far as the Canadian dollar being worth more than the US dollar... check again... 1 USD = 1.02542 CAD

The duty can be as high as 25% plus provincial taxes and some of the Hong Kong companies put the wife price (greatly reduced from the actual) on the invoice so very little duty and tax has to be paid. It helps when the wife picks up the mail and the invoice says $40.00 instead of $400. Not that we would try to lessen the apparent amount we spend on the hobby or anything, would we?

I wish I could get someone to put a wife price on the invoice... at least my wife doesn't cringe that bad when I order stuff... just when I crash... I think it's great that some stores will do that for you so the taxes and duty fees don't kill you.. helps keep you in the hobby and makes you more likely to be a repeat customer...

Thanks, nice website and their email and shipping policy looks great as well as their product line. I will give them my order if I can get RC-Expert to cancel and give me my cash back. That could take a long time considering they read emails about once a week.Meanwhile, I am not flying. I am being repressed!!!!

This sounds like a south park episoide. My brother just spent 2 weeks in Canada for work and it waz freezing, plus he's a smoker so he had to go outside often and freeze. So when do you get a chance to fly? although the cold would keep the enigine and batteries from getting hot. hmmmmm, interesting. Gotta think about this.
Oh, the south park thing - they should do one about a duty tax / wife tax which is even funnyer.

Lipos "Hate" the cold and do not work as well thill they warm up. many times you have to keep them in your pocket or a warm car to use them in the cold.

Flying Hobby is coming thru with good service,(thank you, mystic mead), good prices and they communicate with email daily if required to fulfill your order.. RC-Expert was a headache and I cancelled my order after many weeks without them shipping. I can't imagine how they expect to stay in business when they show parts in stock, I ordered them, and then for weeks they put me off with lame excuses and stupid questions asking if maybe I would rather buy something other than what I wanted. It took many emails to get them to refund my Paypal payment even after they acknowledged that I cancelled my order. I fell very fortunate to have recovered my money and will not order any helis or parts from them again. I may have just had a bad experience but that's enough for me. I would rather be flying my heli than flying into a rage waiting for parts.

I've just bought my 6th heli from Flying-Hobby, best prices I can find and great service. Fung is great to deal with, I bought one of his combos but changed the Maxwell servos to DS821s, changed the motor from Gaui to Z20A 980, don't need the regulator / Rx battery (using a BEC) - all for the same price as std combo

Flying Hobby certainly goes the extra distance. I am buying a 6s charger from them and figured that with the right balance harness I could charge two 11.1 v 3s batteries at the same time. I asked if Flying Hobby had such a thing or would I have to make it myself and described my plan. They asked the factory to start manufacturing them and now sell them. That's service!

that's a company that listens to the customers and wants to help make them happy :D which is why I'll be ordering from them

There is a new kid on the block!! ROTORTECH has started a site out of Calgary Alberta which is a lot closer to Vancouver than Hong Kong!! They are just clearing their first stock from customs but seem to be on the ball. They also carry Gaui 550 parts and that has been a problem in Canada until now. I have put in an order and wish them much success.Check out their site!
