Just surfing a bit today.... and stumbled upon this at ReadyHeli - They have the new Gaui 200 kit with Torque Shaft!

I almost pulled the trigger, but $370 for a 200 size heli seems a bit high.... I need to fly one first. Looks cool though!

Seen that but, where's the other new parts??

Can the shaft drive be fitted to a carbon fiber tail boom?

Has the new FG painted canopy too. I wonder how different the handling or reliability is that they are including the shaft drive in its own kit.

You never reported back. How do you like the shaft? Tell us now!!

I will pass on the shaft, something this small is probably similar to my walkera 35 and it you breath on the tail wrong you strip gears.

So you're saying you don't want to get the shaft :)

Exactly!

Not with this thing.. I've been flying one of the prototypes for about a month now and I've crashed twice. Both times, my TT survived with no stripped gears or anything. However, I didn't have a boomstrike and I did manage to hit throttle hold as the impacts happened so that probably helped to preserve the shaft drive.

The performance increase is pretty noticeable. I don't know about you guys, but my belt was always flipping over on me in the belt driven setup, so tight tension was pretty necessary for me. Took away a good deal of efficiency..

Anyway, these torque tube gears are pretty beefy. I wouldn't compare GAUI to Walkera.

good to hear it's durable.
did you toucht the ground (a bit) with the tail rotor? or some grass leaves maybe?
i'm interested if the tube gears will hold.in this situatons.

i would definitely not compare GAUI to Walkera! :...:
i had the 64C (about the same size) and sold it for the hurricane, because of qualtity issues.

Actually yes.. I shredded the tips of the tail rotor blades so I know they impacted the ground.. Also, I didn't hit throttle hold until the helicopter hit the ground so I know there was a moment when the TT was jammed with power on.. It seems reasonably durable. I wouldn't worry about them blowing up!

if it that durable where can I get one? I have 8 flights so far and 1 crash, one of two things happened either the screw for the washout arm to swash came free or the belt was skipping, when I examined it the belt was loose and skipping teeth, not sure if thats what happened it was toooooo fast to tell.

It did happen on rudder input though

edit:
sorry that was for a complete heli with shaft drive,
here you have it.

Is there any reason the shaft drive wouldn't work with a 15T pinion motor setup? I have a 3S battery with Z-Power 300 1100kV motor. The shaft drive pinion attaches to the modified main gear so all seems like it should be fine, right?

it doesn't have anything to do with the shaft drive,
but your kv's are a little low, i run a 3800kv motor with a 12 pinion on 3 cells.

[EDIT[

You're right, it's rated 3300kV not 1100. I must have been thinking gaui 550.

However, it DOES have everything to do with the shaft drive. The shaft drive replaces the motor pinion and is combined with the shaft drive pinion. So if you use a 3300kV 3S setup like me with 15T pinion you will be forced to use the 12T pinion that comes with the shaft drive setup.
