I just bought a used Blade 400 that was supposedly RTF, but has two stripped servos. The question I have is where are people getting replacement gears for the DS75's. They don't seem to be available yet. I emailed Horizon and they confirmed the gears are different from the analog version of the S75. Yes I could upgrade, but this heli is the smallest of three and is meant to be a knock around heli.

Thanks.

I think he meant he bought it used (from someone that gave up ????)

Wish I had the money to have this B400 as a beater.......must be nice

I have used the S75 gears in the DS75 servos but you have to use the arm for the S75. The diameter of the gears is the same but the gear teeth are not. It's an alternative if you have no other out.

Spektrum DSP75 servo gears are a direct replacement for the E-Flite ds75 gears. The part number is SPMDSP751. Horizon Hobby shows them as in stock.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of checking that.

Try www.heliproz.com (http://www.heliproz.com), they had both in stock last time I checked.

And they're in MT so parts should get to you quickly. It takes two days to get parts to me in CO.

Hey if all else fails the hitec hs55 gears will work but you will need the hitec arms. These gears are much stronger than the eflite. I stripped my pitch servo gears on the eflite gears while I was replacing my aleron servo just by moving the arm. I replaced all my gears with these and they never stripped. But then I went went the hs65's and they are a lot more stable. On the eflite servos either you get a good one or not but a lot of people have had failure in flight from these servos.

Hey Newhelliguy, thanks for the information on the HS65 servos. I have been extremely frustrated with my Eflite servos. They have stripped and of course are not available. Did these fit in your Blade 400 ok? My local shop has them in stock.

I second the vote for Hitec 65's. Definitely a step up from the stock ones, which I've heard have centering issues. I run 65's in my park flyers.

the diffrence is not much
all at 4.5volts
DS285 speed .18 at 60 deg
TQ 17 oz

hs65 speed .14 at 60 deg
TQ 24 oz

now by that you wold say the hs65 is better

but if you make the center of travel and acuate the servo one way and back to center
they both will center on the mark

if you acuate the servos in both directions the DS285 will center on the mark
the hs65 will be a lil off

so the DS285 will center perfect every time when u acuate the full range and back to center

the 65 will be slightly off

but both are a great choice compared to stock
but servo change will not may you a better pilot
just increases reliability and reaction

the ds285's have metal gears right? Thats what I saw on rediheli.com. but then they sell the plastic gears so thats doesnt make sense to me.

metal gears are acually have more play than the nylon
but yes ds285 do come in metal
also they are much heavier

I have two DSP75 servos and I broke the second gear in it today and that is the one that is different from the E flite stock servo so I dont have a replacement. I have asked the LHS many times for Spektrum replacement gears but they dont seem to have them. I think I may change all three to DS285's as they have those and the replacement plastic gears.

sokal, so are you still using the metal gears that came with the DS285 or did you change to plastic?

What do you guys think I should do. I crash a lot less lately but it seems when I do crash, its pretty bad and these servo gears keep breaking!

The Hitec HS65MG is the preferred servo to use, nearly crashproof and you will save a bunch of money over buying the DS285 servos. Do they center as well as the digital 285'S? yes they center just fine, are faster and have more torque, all around a better servo and less expensive to boot, plus they are available everywhere.

it depends on you if u dont mind u doing those 4 screws to change gears
which really isnt hard

or add weight and transfer the energy to another part.

i have the nylon gears and do just fine had 1 crash so far
1 main grip
1 tail grip
1 main gear
1 servo gear
mainshaft
spindal

not too much
crashed in to a kite
not watching were i was going

so its up to you both are just fine
MG has more play
nylon has less durability
same speed and TQ

Ok, so how is the play with the gearing in the HS-56HB karbonite geared servo? Seems to me as they are a no-brainer especially at ~$25 each new.

sokal

the reason for play in the metal gear is the back lash
but for the HB it just a harder plastic than nylon
so will have less play than metal
all types are great servos just pick what you prefer

Alrighty then. Not to sound cheap, but cheap appeals to me. That's $30 saved!!

It was a no brainer to me, I went with the HS-56HB. Karbonite. Fits into my B400, not as heavy as metal, but anything is better than those E flite and Spektrum plastic gears. Oh yes, I stripped my share of Spektrum gears to. I now run nothing but Hitec. Well bad weather, now I'm running The :( Sim. You get the idea.

When you say a "direct replacement", do you mean they are litterally the exact same gears, gear for gear, pin for pin, plug and play? These seem much easier to come by, and I'm just concerned they won't fit exactly as the EFLRDS751 gears do.

Paul Hinz

Yes they are exactly the same gear sets. That came directly from Horizon Hobbies when the Blade 400 first came out and the gear sets for the E-Flite gear sets had not arrived yet.

My LHS says that the spline on these is different, and would require changing the servo arms. Is this infact the case?

I need to replace servo gears now too, for the first time. I understand the frustration of going through plastic gears easily, and wanting to beef them up. On the other hand, there may be an advantage to the weaker gears. If they are the weakest link in your control system, they be the first part to go, possibly saving other parts that may be both more expensive and more complicated to replace. I know this is the case with some heavier real-world equipment I've used.
