I am in the process of building my Twinn Rexx. I already have a Castle Creations BEC. It is not recommended by Tech Model Products. See Below:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Castle Creations 4.8V to 9V BEC (CC BEC)
This BEC is rated for up to 7 amps continuous. It has plenty of power for just about any model.

Note: Not recommended for the Twinn Rexx.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully the attachment works too, ( It's from Tech Model Products site ) It's of the BEC.

Is there truely a problem with this BEC? Is it safe to use on this model?

Please advise, I don't want to spend extra money for another BEC, but I also don't want to loose this machine.

Thank you for any help you can give.

John

If Joe says they are not safe for the rex tandem ... I would stay away from them .. Joe knows what he is doing ... the medusa works great and with this much money invested already ... a few bucks(13.00 or so ) more that will probably save your bird is well worth it in my humble opinion.

After e-mailing Joe, he explained his concerns and then suggested modifications that would allow me to use the Castle Creations BEC.

Joe's Reply:

The CC BEC is wired through the plug which can only handle a few amps. I don't like the design do to that. I feel it is an overall weakness. Connections to the power source should be wired directly (soldered) and not have a just a small pin type connection.

My Reply:

I had planned on cutting off the connector and soldering to the lead coming from the BEC. If I do that and use the larger 22 ga wire, would that suffice for the Twinn Rexx.

Joe's Reply:

Yeah, that should work. Add the 22GA wire as close to the unit as possible.

I am going to proceed and use the CC BEC and I'll let you all know if I find any problems with it.

This is so much fun!!
