anyone have any photos of these servos or any other upgrade servo mods to their blade-400? just wondering how would the tail servo be mounted for best performance, and witch servo arm is most comonly used for the hs65mg elev servo, and if i have to do any tail push rod cutting, im tryin to get my wifes heli some better performance before i let her crash it. lol or better yet, i just want to give it a good ring-out before i teach her how to hover! :YeaBaby:

I just finished putting on the Align tail servo mounts. I had to chop about 23mm off of the t/r rod.

I hear the 65mg's requires a slight frame file. The JR ds285's go in with no modification to the frame.

thanks for the pictures.im gonna go with the ds285, they look like a perfect fit. does the ds285 come with a servo arm that will 90' with the eleve servo? do i need nuts for the ball to stay in the servo arms? one more thing how did you put the tail push rod back together? sorry for all the crazy questions, im just trying to put in an order for everything i need as soon as i can. thanks

The 285's are nice, the 4 point horn they come with works well. I don't use nuts on the back of the elevator, aileron or pitch servos, just t/r; as the stock b400 balls need to screw into the ds285 horns and they are very short.

The tail rod was mended after chopping off the length needed, by a carbon fiber tube that both ends of the severed rod then are joined by epoxy inside the tube. In the picture you can see the 3/4" length of cf tubing right next to the servo ball link.

Ask away, that's what this site is for:thumbup:.

I got ours in without removing any material from the frame...

I used pliers for removing c-clips to give the frame the incentive to let them go in :)

HMM John I see that you have the ball link on the outside of the arm does this line up correctly? I ask cuz i am in the middle of (actually just about to put the head back on) of upgrading mine and put the balls on the inside.

:lolol. It's all in how it flies, unfortunately I don't fly so well yet, so I have had to be a better mechanic than pilot. I bet your new 600 will be looking great though.

So you were able to stretch the frame instead of filing? Also, are those the stock servo horns on your 65's? One last question, you are directly related to Ron Lund of Heli Proz?

Just popping the links off, and moving them to teh back, it looks as though they would sit at about the same angle, just inwards.

Yes, I squeezed them in with no removal of material. Mind you, they didn't want to go be there, but they are. They are the arms that came with the servos. And yes, he is my dad.

man those ds285s are pricey:(. but i did it, placed an order for the ds285mg and a 3400g, gy401 with some v2 tail servo holders, an extra b400 tail push rod incase i mess up the original , and to finish it off with some gurilla gear struts, k&b tail blades, trex woodies 325, and last but not least some kp packs. my wife better take care of this bird, and hopefully get me a trex 500 for my birthday:YeaBaby:. but i cant wait to see what the b400 can do, i have good hope for this heli. thanks to all who shared your photos of your setup, and once the mail man shows up at my door ill post some pics and maybe a video! thanks again everyone:thumbup:

Your gonna LOVE it! I thought it flew pretty well out of the box. I put those upgrades in and WOW it was like a whole (better) new heli. Good luck. oh and theres lots of info on here about setting up the 401 but if ya have trouble dont hesitate to ask 'most' of us will not say "use the search button" and just be glad to help ya!

k&b tail blades,

I was going to put a set of those on the shop 400, but the root was way too thick. Maybe they have thinned it in newer blades.

you know what i just realized that john. i took the k&bs of my trex and wanted to try them on the b400 but it was a little too thick. not much but i think it will work with a little sandpaper, the only concern is they are kind of long maybe ill just keep the k&bs for my rex and try the align batman blades. i flew it just not too long ago and i like this thing, i think i might just get one for my damn self! lol i love the feel of this bird in the air, its so light, unlike my trex you feel ever oz of that thing not that the trex is bad, but you can throw this heli around like crazy, and it autos pretty good as well.

Had to shorten the rod and cut the rubber servo grommets and brass grommets to allow the servo to sit straight.

LjArpin,

Is that a stock gyro? Does it hold well? I'm thinking of getting a 3400 sometime next week.

Yeah its pretty solid. it helps that the 3400 is a true digital and you can run the gyro in digital mode. You will like it. Im not gonna change anything else on my B400 except switch out the yellow for blue. tired of looking like every other Blade out there. And blue is my favorite color!

I cheated when I installed the HS-65HB servos. I unscrewed the case, screwed the top half of the servo case in place, then slid the back half of the servo in from behind and screwed the case back together.

No Muss, No Fuss, no pinched wires. Do the reverse to replace stripped gears. (not so often as stock, but I have gone thru three sets now :-)

You really shouldn't use the rubber mounts on your tail servo as it just adds slop to the linkage. Tail servos more or less should always be hard mounted.
