Oops, FaCtory
Please help me understand the factory Swash Mix settings, I just don't get it.
My DX6i came programmed with the Swash Mix settings at:
AILE -75%
ELEV -75%
PITCH +85%
and page 20 of the manual confirms that's what they should be.
I do understand the +/- direction and how they should work together collectively.
What I don't understand is why the PITCH setting is 10% higher than the others??
Also, I just rebuilt and set up everything per Finless Bob's videos.
I used subtrim to level the servo arms, at center stick, and then added a small amount of Travel Adj to get the swash level at low and full stick, using a swashplate leveling tool.
Everything looks good.
When would it be necessary to raise or lower the Swash Mix values?
Would I raise or lower them, equally, if I couldn't get +/- 10d pitch, or if I want more than +/- 10d pitch?
This is really bothering me, any input will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Good question, maybe Sokal will chime in. I think he has all 3 of his at -60
I just wanted to say about the sub-trim, for the best set-up IMO set all sub trim to 0 and center all trim adjust linkages manually to center. I fly with 0 sub/trim and she is VERY stable.

My heli flew pretty good also with the arms all over the place and no Travel Adj.
But following my last crash I wanted to setup everything perfectly.
I found with my old setup that at full stick my swash went out of level a little.
I'm quickly learning that pretty much everything Finless says is right on, so I wanted to try it..
And even though I don't ever use full +/- pitch when flying I like things to be perfect.
So with these new settings my arms are perfectly level at half stick and my swashplate stays level throughout the full collective range. My mechanical pitch matches my pitch curve settings at all points.
Looks great on the bench and I'll test fly soon.

Pitch is how much the 3 servos move the swash up and down for collective. Aileron and elevator coordinate how the servos move together for the cyclic functions.
Increasing or decreasing ELE or AIL will make those controls more or less sensitive. However, if you go with more sensitive, make sure you don't have any binding in the head. (I think sokal mentioned this.)
FWIW, with my DSP75s on cyclic and my DX7 I have PIT 62%, AIL & ELE 50%. I had to mess with the ATVs a little to get it all to move together full up and down.
The swash alignment tool is great. Nothing like being in trim right off the table.

I recently redid my swash mix and found that at lower swash values:
aile: -66%
elev: -66%
pitc: +75%
And then setting the swash plate level to these values, caused problems. There wasn't enough throw or travel in the collective, so my pitch values were way to weak, lot of head speed, little pitch.
After much trial and error, I ended up back at the original swash mix values:
aile: -75%
elev: -75%
pitc: +85%
then leveled my plate. The throw is now a much fuller range in all directions and the pitch is finally correct. I found that at the stock swash mix values the pitch is much more sensitive to adjustment, I can dial up +90% pitch in the Tx and now I can get +11-12%, where as before I would get +6% at high collective.
YMMV

OK, I think I'm starting to understand.
Is it that the PITCH setting in Swash Mix is not the "pitch" servo but collective movement/range of all three?
As I mentioned, with the stock Swash Mix settings and use of the swashplate leveling tool (thanks Mike) along with some Travel Adj tweaking I can get +/- 10d pitch at high and low stick positions and a level swash across the collective range.

swash mix can very form heli to heli
its based on how you riged the head
i start from 60 on all
and fine tune from thier
pitch will get you your +10/-10
aile and elev will get you your deflection deg
limiting factor is the fly bar control rod contacting the blade grip
to check put the fly bar over the heli to check AILE move controls to one side and look at the gap between the flybar control rod and blade grip adj the value to get a as much as you can with out contact
then check to make sure its the same space in the opposit direction
if not flybar cage was not level take out from the hi side and add to the low then check gaping again and adj accordingly
for ELEV do the same but with blades over the heli
now you should have
+10/-10 and 0 mid stick with all arms level
and about 5-6 degree cyclic deflection

sokal,
I'm not sure I understand that proceedure 100%.
But that's OK, I didn't understand that part of the Finless video either.
Anyway, do you do the deflection part at half or full stick?
