are all the JR 9303 radios able to use a spektrum 2.4 module ? Like if I bought a used JR9303 that had a FM module in it could I take that out and put the Spektrum module in it ?

Yes.

Only the 9303's that have a module can use the 2.4 module.

Which is all of them :)

You do lose Model Match, Servo Synch and the ability to use DSM Rxes (not a big deal).

The X9303 also has Hover Pitch and Throttle Inhibited by default. Also the timer dispay is MUCH larger.

And the price difference isn't huge. Used 9303s are selling for $250. hemodule system with AR9000 Rx sell for $263 for a total of $513. New X9303 with R921 (same Rx) sells for as low as $529.

I was reading the description on the horizon website on the 9303 2.4 and it said that the model match and dsm1 compatability was functional in the 9303 2.4 radio .

Is this only on new 9303 2.4 's from the factory , and not old 9303's with the FM module removed and a 2.4 module put in ?

This is confusing to me because I want to buy a used 9303 and buy the spektrum module for it . I see the 9303 2.4 new is $ 630 which seems like alot .

should be able to save some money by buying a used FM 9303 and switch it with a new 2.4 module .

If anyone has an opinion why this is poor thinking let me know please .

A X9303 which doesn't have a module and is 2.4 standard does have model match and supports DSM, etc. Is also supports 2048 resolution on the 9 channel RX's.

A converted FM 9303 does not support model match ,etc and my understanding is it will also not have 2048 resolution.

I see Interesting , So it wouldnt be a bad idea to go this way but , So you dont really save money so much as you give up some features to for a lower price . hmm I'll have to give this some thought to decide weather or not the 2048 resolution ,model match ect. is important to me.

is the 2048 resolution a noticable improvment ? is it worth a couple hundred to get it ?

To some people but I think you'd have to be a pretty gifted pilot to notice. I'll tell you in a few weeks, I'm using the 9 channel reciever in my Vibe 50 I'm building.

Andy--How are you liking that radio compared to the 9C?

Its not here yet, I ordered it last week. I've fooled with them and like them, the ccpm is faster thats for sure. There's a few things that annoy me that dont seem to bother the JR faithful, namely having to get into a system menu at power up to do things like change models and assign switches. The 9c the only reason to go in there is for global settings, all the per model stuff is in one area.

Just thought I'd toss in my $0.02 as I just converted from the 9C to an X9303.

Programming is easier on the X9303 than the 9C and the feel of the radio is just as nice as the 9303, althougth without that antenna sticking out, the balance of the 9303 is "off".

Gimbals are nice, but out of the box I think the sticks are too short so I ran mine out as far as I could without them falling off. :)

I don't know if it's my brain carrying some predisposed notion over better latency, but the heli just "feels" tighter on the 9303 to me. I really liked the 9C, but I'm glad I went this route with the 9303.

The only think I don't like about the 9303 is the inability to use the Gyro Sens menu with a 6ch receiver, but it's not a deal-breaker by any means.

there is always the XPS route too...

i just upgraded to a 9303 from a DX7. I enjoy it more than i did the DX7. it actually feels like a RC transmitter b/c it has some weight to it. i fly w/ a strap, so you have to get a balance beam for it to balance itself. It also is very comfortable to hold and is super easy to program...

only drawback about it so far.. Is i can't use the governor menu to setup my 3 speeds w/o having to put the gyro on aux 2 (i dont like the gyro sense menu's).

Hmmm. I'm looking to upgrade to 2.4 from my 9C. I think I may hold off to see how the new Futaba 10 stacks up. If it gives much faster CCPM processing than I'll probably go that route.

Not wanting hijack but I also just changed from Futaba to a X9303 2.4 DSM, mode 2 heli radio with the 921 Rx. Are all these radio's the same or are their different virsions? I see some that have SX and some without SX, is this just different equipment packed with them like servo's etc, or different type of radio?

SX means it comes with servos, no SX means no servos. I bought mine sans servos - just the Tx, 9 ch Rx and a switch harness... Don't even remember if it came with an Rx pack or not...

Well, at first I thought this was a terrible problem (gyro menu output forced to AUX2). Having left a DX6i and moved to an x9303 my 6100e Rx didn't have an Aux2. I needed the gyro menu output moved to the Gear channel. After reading the manual I found that changing the output channel of the gyro isn't supported.

After a phone call to Horizon Hobby, I've got the new answer. This is most likely something you guys probably already know, but maybe this will help new owners.

The solution is to create a mix between F-Mode ---> Gear with the mix always ON. The end result is you can go into the mix menu and set the output of the gear channel based on which of the possible 6 flight modes your in. (Hold, Norm, ST 1-4)

The only odd bit is instead of the classic 0-100% sensitivity selection range
With 50% being the dividing line between Rate vs. Heading hold
0% being max rate mode gain
100% being max heading hold gainWe end up with a -100% to 100% sensitivity selection range
With 0% being the dividing line between Rate vs. Heading hold
-100% being max rate mode gain
+100% being max heading Hold gain.It takes a little getting used to, but once you do man is it nice! I especially like having rate mode while in throttle hold because:
Won't loose energy in autos while heading hold fights to keep the heli from weather veining. (not that I do any autos for real yet, and when I do I may hate this)
While on the bench, the servo isn't constantly going one way or the other (a problem on my little bird as it doesn't have gyro end point adjustments, so it will sit there and try to bend the tail push rod into a bow...)
Also, while doing setup, the tail servo stays centered, making tail assembly and adjustment simpler. Here's a video of how I have it setup..
