I have been reading some stuff about the ar6100 reciever and it has got me a little worried. I have a couple of questions. My AR6100 does have V1.2 firmware and I am using a DX7 transmitter with it. I am sorry if there are already posts that talk about this but I am having a hard time finding a definitive post.

First, I have been looking through threads and trying to find a good one on the range testing for the AR6100. I am hoping someone can give me a definitive answer to this question. When doing a range test with the AR6100, is the reciever still suppost to be locked at 90 feet? I have been reading other threads on this site and others and most if not all of them say that they have never gotten the AR6100 to stay locked beyond about 30 feet. Personally, when I tested mine I could still get lock up to about 50 feet maybe. At about 50 feet the lock with the transmitter became intermittent. When I do a range test at full power I can easily reach at least 90 feet without a problem. I have my AR6100 in my trex 450 se v2 heli when doing this. Has anyone else had this issue? I also read in one of the posts that the heli needs to be placed like 4 feet off the ground to do a successful range test. Is this true?

Second, I have the Futaba GY401 gyro on my heli. The plugs that plug the gyro into the reciever are slightly larger than a normal plug. This is causing the other plugs to fit tightly maybe causing somewhat of a shearing pressure on the reciever prongs. I think it is ok but I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what they did about it if anything.

In response to your second question...

I'm also using the 401 gyro and the 6100 receiver - the plugs fit tight, but they still make a good connection to the pins of the receiver. The only mod I had to make was to cut off the tab on the futaba plug so it would fit in the receiver correctly.

From Spektrum site:

How To Range Test Your DX7
Monday, January 29, 2007

1. With the model resting on the ground, stand 30 paces (approx. 90 feet) away from the model.

2. Face the model with the transmitter in your normal flying position and depress and hold the bind button on the back of the transmitter. This causes reduced power output from the transmitter.

3. You should have total control of the model with the button depressed at 30 paces (90 feet).

4. If control issues exist, call the Spektrum Service Center at before you fly the model 1-877-504-0233 for further assistance. If your model does not perform a good range test DO NOT FLY YOUR MODEL until the problem is resolved.
