:(... I crashed my Hurri today for the first time and I'm just too upset to even explain...!
I started to survey the damage but I couldn't finish. So far I have to replace:
550mm carbon blades
Main Frame
Bent shaft
bent head spindle
Stripped revco main gear.. (it was on the ground and I didn't see it happening so couldn't hit the t-cut)
Blades were @ 100% - I fly 0 100 100 100 100 / 40 45 50 75 100
more damage to report later..
I was landing and i hit a beer bottle with my main blades. When I saw the bottle, I freaked and hit cyclic to move but I only made it tilt and hit it harder.. positive pitch wasn't even in my game plan..

Things that don't mix. I'm really sorry for your loss, I know it'll happen to me someday but I didn't even get mine yet. How many flights before this? just so I know how many it'll be till I hit the dirt. I just ordered 2 canopys, I could give one out for a cause.

Well, crash count total for all 3 birds is more than I can actually remember. My hurri has been flown about 5 or 6 times.. I was always afraid to crash it.. lol.. My trex 450 is a crash test heli because I've crashed it so many times.. haven't crashed it in a while tho and I probably have about 40-50 flights on that one..
BTW, I don't drink and fly.. that was an empty 40oz bud that someone must have left there...

hopefully you have a local hobby shop to get the parts. If you hafta have them shipped, well that would just suck. Really if ya think about it, it's not that bad, although I'd need more info on the frame damage. one gear, the servos are okay yes? motor as well? I do feel bad but this happens.
end of line,

bpd.....kind of a bummer...but everything is fixable and fairly cheap. A guy at my club crashed a Raptor 90 and he was looking at about $500 in damage to a $3000 heli.
Hawk...
I know you ordered yours from Timbuck Too and have to wait a couple of weeks, but the online HS like Rediheli ship most stuff outthe same day and I have had parts in about 3 days....
So it's really not that bad and I don't have to pay sales tax...usually the shipping isn't too bad for small parts.
I'm gathering from your post about not finding a canopy that you haven't fully discovered all the places you can get 550 parts....and a lot of the trex parts work also...like landing gear, flybar...etc.
I guess if you wanted to fly that day....it would suck...but other than that...it really is not bad, and it gives you time to properly "grieve"....

It's always a sad day when any Freak crashes. Sorry for your loss man. At least you get to work on the heli more...which I find extremely fun. Hope you feel better.

Gotta love this heli...$110 and about half of that was the blades.....which could have been $15 if they were woodies.
I really like this heli for cheap parts and so far lots of places to get them.
Thanks to Bob F and the rest of the freaks most of the bugs have been worked out...
I plan to have a love afair with this heli for a long time....

This post has all the makings of a mini-series.
All it needs is a little set-up and a soundtrack.

We'll show the crash scene......in slow motion. really, really slow motion. May be it should be a 3/4 empty whiskey bottle though.

Didn't have a camera but I can go back to the crash site where I always leave something behind when I smash up...

carbon blades and the bottle didn't break.. the blade skimmed off the bottle and "crack" @ 100% HS

dang... that's some strong glass!!
but for the movie... have the glass shatter and show it embedding into something... for the dramatic effect...

Sorry for your crash, the carbon blades are quite expensive, each time its $60+other parts. I crashed last Thursday and waiting on new blades, I am thinking of going back to the woodies and resulting to the crash pack from ReadyHeli.com $29 includes woodies and other parts often need replacing.

I just crashed last week but I'm still running the woodies since I knew I would crash! :YeaBaby:
I was very surprised at the minimal damage caused by a full speed nose dive! I haven't been back out since it's been so windy the past few days but hopefully I'll be over my new heli jitters finally!
I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to flying before too long!

Took a couple of pics...
Can't believe that my one-way-gear split like that... Is that common?

If that is the original 19 tooth then yes it is quite normal
upgrade to the new 20 tooth seems to be better
