Found an excellent album of pictures (RCHeliResource.com) from the LV FF with tons of shots of each pilot and their helicopters. Looks like Andy Rummer brought a Logo 400 and I like the new low profile white skids for the L600/500 and REALLY like the new color scheme on the canopies - 50s retro colors. Also, Matt Botos was flying the Logo 600 and I think Danny Szabo is also flying for Team Mikado but I didn't see any photos of him flying. Looks like photos and video are still being added.

Many other shots of all the top pilots with their helicopters and it looks like a well attended event. These are some of the best shots I've seen in a while.

Yea very cool indeed!

I could not goto the event this year :(. My friend Bryan Regular did compete this year and took 4th in the 500 class. Also good freinds Manny and his wife Fran went, they took several photos and has some supper with Andy and his girlfriend. He also managed to snap off several pics including some of the new 400 and the new Hacker turbine motor as well.

I know Ticidytoc also was there and has some pics in his RR gallery as well, however I will not post as I do not have his permission on those. ;)

Is he using the K & B blades on the 400?

Can't say 100% for sure, but they do look like the newest K&Bs'..

Check out the video of Andy - I like the tic-tocs popping in sync to the music about 1:16 into the video and the reverse travel porpoising moves. Very nice new moves to watch.

Ya Shawn, looks like that electric turbine takes a lot of air with that scoop on it. Wonder how the swoshing air sounds?

Nice canopies! And I'd say Mikado made a much better cooling hole in their canopy than Century did. :rolling

That first song on Andy Rummer's video sure fits this forum.

I thought of making a cooling hole with a duct that blows cold air onto my ESC. Never went through with it. Just an idea.

For the record no those canopies do not come painted that way, Andy had someone paint them to his liking, also the holes that were cut in canopies were specific to his needs for the new Hacker motor and he himself cut the canopies, they do not come that way.

Shawn, do you know if those low profile landing gear are a Mikado made item or did Andy make or modify some landing gear custom? I really like them and have been looking for gear that lower the whole profile of the 500.

do you have any info on the new motor ? and will the snorkel be a option , I love to get one 4 my a40-10L

Eyon
03-24-2008, 09:56 AM
what would you like to know about the motor?

there are 2 versions, an A50 and a A40 for the 600 and 500 respectively. both of which are stupidly powerful outrunners in a can, with a new ventilation system, the snorkel obviously aids this. expect the most amazing power from a logo with these motors!

when are they available ? guess over kill for the 400 ?

oh yeah! you dont need 3kW in a 425mm blade machine....or do we :D

Is there any literature on these motors yet Eyon? I'm assuming the A40 ET will be even more power hungry than the A40-8L unless they've made them alot more efficient at the same time. Also, how do they sound?

well arent inrunner more efficent the out runners ?

Eyon
03-24-2008, 03:30 PM
yes you are right, inrunners are more efficient, because it requires less effort to spin a lower diameter object, AND there is less resistance in the motor due to less windings. In-runners can be up to 95% efficient, outrunners are usually 80-85%

I guess that amp draw will be similar on these motors as to the standard ones, however, the efficiency is way way up, so we are looking at stupid power! a lot of work and development has gone into these motors, i believe that nothing has been spared in the design of them. As well, they are ground up designed as helicopter motors, even designed around the logos i believe, they arnt just fixed wing motors with a different kV, both apps need vastly different motor designs.

Why are there so many outrunners if they are so less effecient? There must be some other benifit.
