Hey guys, i'm new to big e-helis and have quite a few questions so i thought i'd make this thread as i know i will have more questions as the build goes on etc, this way i can ask questions here as they come up.
My 1st question is i need advise on how to power the electronics & radio system.
I can either use a separate flight pack or run from the main pack, i know they both have their plus's and minuses but which do most use and why ?
If i use a separate 2 cell lipo, which BEC is good to get ? i've only seen the Align's for sale and dont know what other options i have. I also hear its best to use a BEC that can push more than 6amp.
Please give me some options as i am clueless here :dontknow .
SetUp will be
Logo 600 on 12s
Spartan gyro
BLS 251 tail
BLS 451 or JR 8717
Motor XXX
Also could some of post pix of ur logo without the canopy, had a look but couldn't find many Naked Logo pix .
Thx ;)

Hi!
I can try to answer even though I'm flying a Logo 500 3D (my DX7 is on repair, so I haven't flown it yet...).
- Logo 600 3D with flybar (since you listed an separate tail gyro)
- FlightPower EVO25 10S1P 3700mAH/EVOlite 10S1P 5350mAh/EVO25 10S1P 4350mAh
- Spartan DS760 w/JR DS8900G
- 3x JR DS8717
- Spektrum Dual Output Regulator 5203
- FlightPower EVORX 2S 1320mAh
- Plettenberg Orbit 30-10 HE
- Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32 or Jive when they come out
If you want to, you can get an Western Robotics 5/6V 5A BEC and get the electronics powered from your main battery. If you are going to get the 8717s it is better to get an separate RX-battery. Then you can run the 8717s on 8,4V and get torque at 180 and speed at 0,045. The Spektrum 5203 regulator is to step down your tail servo and ESC. The Spartan gyro can handle 8,4V, but ESCs do not like more than 7V on their signal lines.
Have you seen Bob's "BEC 101 Video"? (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/generic&filename=bec101.wmv)
Hope this helps.

Thx for that Mathias, yes that helped loads. Isn't the Orbit only for 10s Max ? I was thinking of waiting for the new Scorpion motor which should be out in April.
With the servos i was thinking to get the 8717's but run them on 6v for the 1st few months then if i wanted more speed run them direct on 2s lipo. So "If" i go that way what BEC is good to get ?
Downloading vid now, maybe the answer will be on there.
Plz keep the suggestions coming Guys, Thx
Peace

The WR 5/6V 5A should work real fine. If you want to, you can wire two in parallel because of the 8717s high Amp draw.
Plettenberg Orbit 30-12 HE was what I meant. Sorry.
Hi ShuNut, where abouts in the UK are you? perhaps i can give you some proper help in person with these logos?

Thx for that Mathias, according to this site that orbit is only for 10s http://www.plettenberg-motoren.com/UK/Anwend/heli.htm.
Thx for the offer Eyon, i'm in Brum, so its a bit far from Cambridge.
Not worried about the motor for now, main thing i want to get sorted next is the BEC.
Is "WR" wester robotics ? i could only find "propa BEC's" by WR and i now know from the vid Mathias linked that i need a Regulator, (unless u guys think its better to use my main pack & run a proper BEC).
So i found a few, are these any good ?
1:http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=93&products_id=5211 HobbyWing, 8amp 15 max
2:http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/flighttech_linear_volt_regulator-p-3564.html?osCsid=feda22dee969b5442e4e97e693c7a472 Flighttech 8amp

Could i use any of these, the 1st one is very cheap are HobbyWing any good ? If not then is the Flightech one ok ?
Thx
Yeah its a slight distance! if you are at charmouth later next month let me know ill let you have a fly of the 600
In regards to what setup.....see my sig. i haven't yet got the motor but it will be THE one to run.
out of interest, why 12s?

WoW Eyon, I can't believe your offering to let me fly your BIG £££'s-V-Bar-Logo without even knowing me or even if i can fly decent or just hover & crash, I appreciate that a lot, but i dont think ill have mine ready for Charmouth, i was hoping to go this yr but only if i had my Biggie ready....i doubt it now.
-----------------------------
Guys, maybe i should have been more clear in the 1st post.
What I'm Asking 1st Is This:
Is It Best To Use My Main Pack To Run The Electronics Or Use A Separate Flight Pack ???
If separate flight pack than could i use any of these Regulators.
1:http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...oducts_id=5211 HobbyWing, 8amp 15 max
2:http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/flig...4e97e693c7a472 Flighttech 8amp
3:http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/dura...4e97e693c7a472 Duralite 7.5amp
Or Should I Go With A BEC And Use My Main Lipo Pack And Get A Proper BEC ?
If so Would This One Be Ok ? http://www.realraptors.co.uk/zen-cart-v1.1.3/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2878&zenid=c94ddb114286c78d7b63d1667a9e92aa
:dontknow
I'm hoping to order whatever one i need tomorrow.
:o
Thx
haha! not a problem, its impossible to crash any more than me anyway, i let most people fly the logo just to let them know how awesome it is.
I personally would never run a BEC on a heli like this. too much power and too much money tied in, so i use a separate pack and regulator. I use the flighttech 8A one, it works perfectly! cannot fault it 1 bit and i have been using them extensively for a very very long time, months before they were released. they have been tested to 13A with a moderate airflow and it dropped 0.4v. We badged it to 8A though but peaks are no problem for it.
Not a fan of becs though, they never show signs of giving up untill they go pop, at least with a reg they fade!

Thx Eyon, thats the kind of answer i was looking for, a suggestion and a reason, ill order one now.
I did see "FlightTech" in ur sig but didn't know what it was or ment, i'm new to big helis dont forget, only used to a Rex450SE which requires hardly any knowledge, just a quick build and fly, which is the part i like best and can do ok-ish.

Hey Guys
I have 4 boom questions.
1: Is there supposed to be a clamp to hold the boom up against the frame ? in the pic it shows a clamp that looks like the same one as for the horizontal fin. Manuel dont say if its only for the 500.
2: How is the boom correctly tightened around the frame ? i have the 6 small bolts around the boom quite tight but the boom turns easily.
3: Is there supposed to be 2 guides for the tail-push-rod ? i only have one.
4: How far back into the tail case should i have the boom ?
Thx for any help.
Peace

No that's for the 500 so you don't need that.
2: How is the boom correctly tightened around the frame ? i have the 6 small bolts around the boom quite tight but the boom turns easily.
I used packing tape that's used to box items for shipping. Put a layer around the boom and give it a try.... it may take 2 layers depending on how loose the boom fits into the body.
3: Is there supposed to be 2 guides for the tail-push-rod ? i only have one.
Just one came in everyones kit that I know. One is fine and you probably don't even need that but use it anyway.
4: How far back into the tail case should i have the boom ?
Here is a shot of the tail boom flushed out with the rear most boom clamp on my heli. You may need to push your boom into the body of the heli further and pull the tail case back more. This will also allow more of the booms surface area to be inside the body thus giving it more gripping strength. I think they may have made the boom 10mm longer or so on newer kits so you may have a small amount of the boom extending past the tail clamp shown in the picture I linked.

Is it ok to put my RX on top of my Reg or is this not a good idea ? I know i could put it on the side or in other places but here would be nice and tidy.
Does the Reg get hot ?
Thx

I think ill try it out there and see how she goes, with that GIANT heat sink i'm not surprised it dont get hot.

So the servo wheel is too small yes, can i use the other servo arm that comes with the Futabas ? The books says i need 20mm from hole 2 hole but the arm is about 18.5mm hole to hole.
Do i need to buy new arms ?
Thx

You need to buy Mikado Servo Horns.

Maan what a *****, i really didn't want to hear that.
Thx anyway fot that info LITHIUMSTATIC.
But maaaan i'm peed off now, why didn't someone tell me, why didn't Mikado put it in the front on the manual where it tells you what you will need to compleat the heli, "Warning Your Servo Horns Are Useless, You Will Need To Spend More Money With Us On Special Horns"
Well i think Mikado SUCKS , is this their way of making a few extra bucks ? I mean was they like Oh No, 18.5mm is no good, we can't make more money that way, lets make it so they need special 20mm horns.......... Dam fools.
Ok Mikado defenders, bring it on.
I'm not in any rush to get Her ready cus my motor wont be out for a few weeks but maaan i was looking forward to getting ccpm all set up tonight.
I just found some, Ten effing pounds man, daaaaaaaaaaam, what a rip off :badair:.
Oh well, i suppose i may as well go kill some ppl on Xbox Live .
