Do I understand this correctly that the antennas are really the ~1-1/4" of thin wire portruding from the ends of the antenna leads, and that these ends are the only parts required to be kept straight, opposed 90 degrees to one another, and clear of any RF shadows (eg. metal or carbon)? If so, I would think it would be OK to route the rest of the antenna leads as necessary within the model, being mindful of potentially interfering electronics. Is it that easy to place these antennas?

i didn't really get that from the instructions, i thought that the whole thing (co-axial part and the wire end) had to be mounted at 90 deg. it does say not to bend the coax part in any sharp angles. i ended up just mounting the whole darn thing at 90, out the rear of my heli. i haven't had glitch one since going 2.4g though. kinda nice.

Yes, that is correct.

That's the way I understand it also, that the smaller diameter part at the end of the wire is the antenna and this is what needs to be 90* from one another. I used the coax part to achieve this though.

Review the above link. The exposed lead is the antenna.
