Hi John - speaking of total dollars in the air, I have been toying with the idea of getting a similar setup to yours, just off the top of my head I come up with:

**Neu 1912/1Y/H - 300.00
**L600/Flybarless (A Main Hobbies) 1330.00
**Radix 600 main blades 85.99
**JR 8717's 300.00 (for 3)
**GY611/9256 350.00
**AR7000 70.00
**Jazz 80-6-18 300.00
**Flightpower 5350 10S (three @ 540.00) 1620.00
**Rx batteries and BEC 100.00
**Misc support items, crash kit, spares, etc 500.00

4836.00 total

Close. I only flew one pack at a time ;), bought few spares up-front (excepting rotors, fortunately, where the spare will now be handy), so I only had like $3400 hanging up there when it went BOOM! Getting out for the price of a kit doesn't seem so bad. Well, not as bad...

Sidenote; some piro-rate, huh?

Quite! What was scary about it was the WHOOSH-WHOOSH as it came around each time. A spinning blender under a spinning blender. Wish I'd had the skill to control that and keep it level. The un-level ground underneath probably would have defeated that, however.

I have to say... I really feel for you. But as you say, surprisingly little of the actual cost of the helicopter is in the kit.

........ have my stock rods in place just some dental floss to re enforce the hold as mentioned and I also use JB weld myself. Epoxy works as well no issues..On top of all this I usually also heatshrink over the ball link and the rod as a last course of insurance...:)
What rods are u talking about here, boom supports ? tail push rod ? any pix for us to look at inc the heat shrink over the ball link ?

John,
Dump the idler roller and install 3-3x8mm bearings instead. Many people have had tight tail belts come off, including me. makes for a scary auto.
Will any bearing of that size do ( 3-3x8mm), and again any pix ?

Thx

Just a quick update - smallparts.com has .098" music wire in 6' lengths. All I need to do is find a die to cut threads on it, and I should be set.

Got the bearing roller installed as well, so here's hoping the next flight goes a bit better.

At least the build is enjoyable...

One newer thought...

The threaded rod you use for putting the nuts in the frames are the same diameter as the rods for the tail control shaft. So... now having two kits, I used those to make my new one instead. MUCH more gripping area makes me happier.

Now if I just could get a few more of those...
