RH has the Gaui upgrade kit on super sale at $49.95...usually $79.95.

It has the metal main grips, tail thrust bearing holders and bearings, light paddles , plus metal head yoke.

If your ever thinking of going metal or you are running over 2000 RPM HS....this is your chance to save some $$$$.

I spent the $79.95 for mine and still thought it was a great upgrade...

The kit is less than the cost of just the main grips....

"what are you waiting for, hit Paypal...."

ps...I have no affiliation with RH....just passing on a super deal to fellow Freaks..

This package looks interesting!

What are the major + sides except beeing able to increase rpm?

Do you need the CNC stop plate to use the CNC main rotor yoke?
Is it better to buy a comlpeate CNC main rotor yoke set?

Thanks

Thanks Mike - at the risk of drifting slightly off-topic, have the "challenges" with the CNC main grips been understood and rectified yet ?.

Thanks,
Mike.

The only challeneges I know of are it takes heat to remove the bearings....I put it in the oven at 250 for about 1/2 hour and they fell right out. you most likely will never have to remove them, anyway.

I also liked having the thrusted tail holders and bearings.

The metal yoke I believe can be used with either plastic or metal grips and does not require the stop plate...

It is really a great deal if you were ever "thinking" of getting the metal grips....

would have saved me $30...

With this you really don't need any more metal parts for the head.

Do you really need to remove the bearings to lube it?
Dont they come ready to install?

Yes they do....and if you really feel the need to lube it...get a tootpick with some white grease and put in there os use some heavy oil.

When you heat the grips to install the bearings you kind of heat all the grease out of it.

Do you mean it is nessecary to put the bearing apart or can you lube it without removing it?
What if you dont do it?

Do you need the CNC mixing lever or can you use the plastic ones?

Thanks

the bearings being a b!tch to remove was one issue, and for some (me included) the pitch arms that screw onto the grips are very hard to remove without stripping the allen head. although the cnc grips are very nice looking, i don't really thing the thrust bearings that are inside of them do anything. they are sandwitched between the other bearings, and don't seem to be able to take any of the force. maybe i'm wrong on that, but after seeing how these metal grips are designed, i'm not too impressed. the thrusts just don't seem functional. plus, if you heat your bearings to remove them, you've just cooked the grease out of them. then you'll need to heat them again to reinstall the bearings, cooking the grease out of them yet again. i guess i'll just never remove them again, and lube them the way that mjdee14 said. but for the $, the upgrade kit is worth it.

yeah... that's the one thing that is bugging me.. Gaui make great improvements on just about everything else that was seen as a problem, yet they have don't nothing about the CNC grip problems. seems to me all it would take is a VERY little machining to make the bearing area not so tight.. then the thrust bearings would work right and lubing would be simple.. the plastic grips don't have this problem... FIX it Gaui!!

I purchased this package awhile back and its great, the thrusted tail bearing blade holders is a must for over 2000 rpm.

What do you mean with that?
Can you oil/grease them without removing the bearing?

We use Dry Ice at work for removing bearings and bushes. Theory is that the Dry Ice shrinks the metal allowing the bearing or shaft to be removed. Just my 2cents worth

Don't think that will work in this case....the outer grips have to be heated to expand enough to get the bearings out..

I also put the bearings in the freezer and heated the grips to get it put together...

ARNE997....the thrust bearings have a little play in them...and I believe you could get some grease or oil in between them when assembled.

The problem with this grip is you do a nice job packing the grease, then you have to heat he grip to get the bearings back in.....well hot metal melts grease or causes it to flow....

A little oil should keep it fairly smooth.

Is oil the right way of lubing a bearing or should it bee greased?

White grease is better, but heavy oil is better than nothing

ok i got my kit today and im trying to install the cnc grips but i tightened the screws down that holds the main grips on but theres still alot of space inbetween the yoke and grips... i used the same dampners and rubber things from the plastic one, am i not supposed to?

Michael, did you have any problem lubing the bearing?

michael88997

yea i cant get the bearings out but they look like their already lubed

but theres something in there i think its the thrust bearing cover that is blocking the way and their so compressed i cant move it back into place

that's is my only complaint with the design of the CNC grips.. to get the bearings out you have to heat the grips.. the bearings are pressed in. then you can lube them.. but you also have to heat the grips to get them back in... which makes lubing them pointless.

There should be a thrust bearing race, thrust bearing, and another race...thay float so you should be able to get a small screwdriver or I use a long handled allen and just line everything up

yea im trying but when i push on it it doesn't do anything... and i can spin it around but can't pop it back into place... which is weird cause the other grip lined up fine
