Where are the helis folks buying their Cool Power in Southern California (Riverside/San Bernardino way) and best prices for 20% to 30%? Thanks! I found Powermaster 30% for about 40$ a gallon.

You need to move to North Texas. I've been buying Cool Power 30% for $20 per gallon.

That's what I'm talking about...20 dollars. I saw 40 for a gallon for the powermaster and thought that was too much $$.

The initial outlay is rough but if you buy a case from a LHS the price often drops damatically. (4 gallons to a case typically)

Any others in So Cal with places to buy this stuff that's not a 200% markup? Obviously this is not a cheap hobby, but I don't like the idea of being overcharged either. Thanks.

I found what I was looking for and only a few more $ than you pay bum. Some places really need to look at their pricing. I thought 40 a gallon was way off base..and it is.

I get mine from helihobbies store front (Hobby House) on vanowen in L.A. $20. I was paying $40+ for powermaster til I found them. They have EVERTHING for helis in that place too. My wife hates it when we go there cause I spend so much time shopping.

I get my fuel at hobbytown usa. I live in Norcal but I'm sure you have hobbytown USA down there as well. I just picked up a case of 30% for 90 bucks and some odd change out the door thats with the tax :YeaBaby:. So for the case it was like 85 bucks or something like that. They sell for 22.99 a gallon. I would just get a case then you dont have to go back and forth to the hobby store.

Holy sh## $40 a gallon!:bomb: If the shop buys a small quantity and it is shipped UPS or fedex there is a Hazmat charge I was told $20 a case. The local place I was buying from last season would sell it for $25 a gallon not great but reasonable for being only 5 mi away. Then they realized the hazmat fee they where eating all along and bumped it to $30 a gallon. This mad it worth the 40 min drive for me to buy from a guy who gets pallets of it at once shipped by truck. He sells it for 21 and some change a gallon. I would buy two cases at a time. When I started flying the guy who taught me to fly plankers would sell 30% coolpower for $88 a case buy 2 cases and he would throw in a gallon.:cheers I miss that guy. I just scored the mother load. I picked up 8 cases of coolpower %30 + 1 new gallon for $350!!! :smokin: I found it in the classifieds on another site well worth the 8 hr round trip drive. The guy was getting out of the hobby.

Im not a fan of cool power. Runs real dirty, take your plug out and youll see burnt castor all over it. I switched to magnum 30 after moving off cool power to bekra and magnum is the way forward for me. nice and smokey and great performance. The hyper seems to love it.

When I started with the Nitro heli I couldn't believe how expensive fuel is, so I went to a chemical supplier local to me and bought the ingredients to mix my own fuel.
If I buy it mixed it costs $11.00 / litre if I mix it myself it costs $6.74.
I use this spread sheet to work out the cost and the mix ratios for my fuel. Values in blue are the variables to play with. http://helifreak.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40084&d=1204016819

I'm not sure I'd want pure nitromethane sitting around, considering how volatile it is.

Went and picked up some 30% Cool Power for 23 dollars. I can handle that. It's about what I was thinking to pay...around 20. It says it's synthetic. Is this true? If it is a synthetic then it seems odd to have scorched oil deposit on the muffler or inside the motor. Maybe it's blend with castor.
About how many fights can one expect from a gallon/4L ?

The tank is 440ml
One gallon is about 4 litres so about 9 or ten flights per gallon.
Nitromethane will not just spontaneously ignite, I store it in my garage with full confidence.

+1
Nitro is an oxidizer, not a fuel. Simply adds more oxygen when mixed with a fuel and burned.
Now if his garage was ever to catch fire....

If my fully concrete garage was to catch fire it would be devistating even without the Nitromethane sitting around. I have all my gliders in there!!
