answered my own question

Which transmitter types does Phoenix support?
Our USB interface device is compatible with a huge range of transmitters and training boxes. Please note that Phoenix will only accept input through the included USB device, and does not accept control through USB controllers.
The current supported transmitter list is as follows:
All JR MC/MX (no adaptor required)
Spektrum DX6/DX7 (no adaptor required)
All Futaba (Futaba round or square adaptor required)
All Hitec (Hitec adaptor required)
All Multiplex (Multiplex adaptor required)
All Sanwa RD-series (Sanwa adaptor required)
E-sky (Mini-DIN adaptor required)
Co-Pilot (Mini-DIN adaptor required)
Blade CX-2 (no adaptor required)
Art-tech 100B (no adaptor required)
Art-tech 100C (Art-tech 100C adaptor required)
Please note that the following transmitters are not supported:
Futaba FX-18 with 2.5mm stereo training port
All USB controller devices/joysticks
All Walkera (not currently supported)

I ordered my Phoenix from UK 3/24 and it just arrived - fast

I did not realize it did not come with a radio - I want to save my DX7 for real flying - I have the real flight G4 radio, A CX2 Radio, An Art-tech Falcon 3d radio, a Esky Honey Bee radio - can any of these be used to run P. Sim - if so will the included adaptor work? If not, can you recommend the most cost effective radio to get.
Thanks for advice.
Nich

Phoenix should plug straight into your CX2 radio, but I would use my DX7

Yeah definately. If you have a DX7 pop that sucker in and use that. Plus it works directly with the cable that came with the sim.

I agree...why wouldn't you use your DX7. You should want to practice with the radio you usually fly with. I use my DX7 with Phoenix and it's awesome.

ok, ok I'll use the DX7

I loaded the sim - sort of dissappointed - does not seem to have very many helis and no slow plankers - choices seem limited

Also my heli are acting funny - like the rudder is way to soft - I let go to center stick and it keeps spinning 3/4 of a turn - guess I just need to play - and could not get the trex to lift off and idle up is not working

Huh? No so many helis? You have visited the download section right? http://www.phoenix-sim.com/downloads.htm
I count 15 down loadable heli models not including the ones that ship with the sim.

Quite a few airplane downloads also.

As for the rudder being soft. I have never had that issue with mine running the DX7. You are using a non-CCPM setup on your DX7 correct?

I'll visit the site - I gather that I need to set up a new model on my DX7 for the sim and turn off ccpm - I did nothing to even change my current model which is a planker - I thought I read that the software uses its own settings and ignores the DX7's just to get to the sticks and switches - like I said, I just need to play I have a G4 and after reading this forum thought I may have a better, more real experience with Phoenix - I have not given up.
Thank You

If you have CCPM enabled, that will cause all sorts of problems. I have a specific memory location on my DX7 that I use for the sim. Set it once and leave it.

I assume you have updated to the latest version of Phoenix? The newer software has really nice TX configuration when you first start it up. If you do have the latest version and havent gone through it yet, you might want to consider it.
