well... I'm getting closer to when I can get me a Hurricane... here's what I'm going to order... let me know if I'm missing anything..
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=2171 will ask Fung to swap the 1100kv gaui for a Z20a-980
CNC roll and pitch arms
CNC Elevator
a couple sets of 500mm woodies (cheap to use til I get better)
20T OWB (unless the new kits come with it)
Thinking of getting the Trex 600 landing gear.. wider is better :D
I like to get stuff planned ahead of time (6 weeks is ahead... right?? :D) so I know exactly where to go and what to order when I get there...

everything looks great to me mysticmead, although the gyro looks to be a re-badged walkera GY401 clone and if it is i would also ask fung to swap it for either a logictech 2100 or a proper GY401 but apart from that your good to go :D

yeah... still waiting on some flight test info on that gyro from Benny Chi... if it sucks, I'll ask for either 401 or a 240.. I'm not into 3D.. like sport flying better... or maybe at some point down the road F3C.. of course I bet that even the Gaui gyro is better than the one on my Black Hawk 450 :D (Keytech gyro's suck)

I would also get the revco gears and matching pinion.. Trust me, with the Z20, you are probably going to strip your gears..
And I found this out the hard way.. When\if you decide to go with the revco gear set. Get both and please be sure to get the correct pinion. The gaui pinion does not work with the revco gear..

you stripped them with a CF frame? using the OK gears?

nope, basic frame and "ok" gears..

I have about 25 flights with theOk gears, Z20 -980 and 14 or 15tpin.....no sign of wear at all.
using the old style motor mount....so far I have not seen the need for the revco gears...maybe that will change. But I don't think they are a must have item...imho

If you can get 3300 lipos that would be nice 2200mah on that motor is like under 5 minutes. Kind of nice seeing the flybar cage instead of bent metals and also the anti rotation bar for the swash.
I have been using the "ok" gear with Z30A 1100kv for more than 80 flights, so far so good.
Another two friends also using the same setup (with Z30A 1100) without any problem.
I'm pretty sure the "ok" gear is "ok" to use it.
Three of us also using 3300mAh and 550mm blades.

i too am using the ok gears, the first set in my plastic framed hurri which used to have the gaui 1500W motor and they worked fine, and the second set in my CF framed hurri with 550 blades a Z30-800 and 10S A123's and they work fine too. imho the revco gears are a downgrade being there only 0.6mod, this makes them easier to strip in higher powered setups, just ask UKGroucho and he'll tell you ;)
in fact i have some revco gears and pinions i'm willing to let go for cheap if anyone wants them

the flybar cage and anti rotation were 2 of the thngs i was looking at on that package.. and I do plan on getting some 3300 Zippy's as well...

I really like the flybar cage.....there is no question you have it set to the right angle....since there isn't any....I always felt I never quite had the two arms perfectly alligned....seems much stronger also.....
I'm waiting on a pair of 3300 Zippy's....will be interested in trying them out.
My 2 Hextronic 2200 are still flawess...just checked them last night after a charge and "every" cell was perfectly balanced...and I did not have to use a balancer...both packs also exact same voltage to 100th of a volt. So far they are pretty good packs...
I just swapped to a 20t OWb and the 15t main pinion....on only one very windy flight it seemed like I had less rpm and my amps jumped up about 10 on average..
Will need to get several more flights to get a good assesment, but maybe the 14t would be a better choice....
Anyone running the Z20-980 with 15t and 20t owb? I'm using 515 mm cf blades.

just over 3 weeks til I order my Hurri!!!!!!! and since my wife thinks that I shouldn't need another heli for a long long time... I'm going to see what kind of price Fung will give me on the combo but with a 2100T gyro.. the gaui one seems ok.. but no one has really said if it's good or not.. and I know the 2100T is a good gyro...

keep the gaui motor.

keep the gaui motor.
now why would I want to keep the stock gaui motor? it's harder on batteries.. while the z20 is easier on batteries and give as good of performance.

Agreed. Go Z20... Cooler running. My packs were on the verge of popping with the 1100 Gaui. Swopped to the Z20 980, and that increased my times from 4min to 6 min, and at the end of the flights, the packs are cool, and you can touch the engine for as long as you want.. it's cool!

mysticmead read the stonecold 1100 thread. i did a very basic mod my gaui motor that seems to have changed it from some kind of battery frying cooking element to efficient cool running powerful motor. i,m sending one to wazzer today and he can get some eagletree results. means you don't have to change ratio's gearing pinions esc blah blah blah. and i'm not exaggerating

believe me, I've read about the impeller you attached to cool th stock 1100 motor. but what will happen when/if it decides to come off during flight? will it fall between the motor and head, locking the head up? or will it go up into the blades? or will it simply fall off to the side causing no problems? by adding that impeller you're introducing another point of failure. The Z20a-980 works great with the stock gearing, it runs very cool, and provides plenty of flight time on 2200mah batteries. no need to change the esc either. Plus, I can get the motor swapped for free...for my peace of mind I'll go with a Z20...
I think it's great that so many heli pilots out there are always looking for better ways to do things and love to read about them. so please don't take it the wrong way when I decline to use your suggestion. it's just a personal choice that I have to make and this time, I'm not choosing to add the impeller to cool the motor. I personally think that Gaui should have included some sort of fan top (Hmm like the Z motors) to provide better cooling..

Mike...I finally went back to the 14t.
with the 20 OWB and the 15T pinion, it seems too much for the Z20 for my style of flying.
I'm looking at the scorpion 1000kv motor.....I figure the 980 has the right HS the Scorpion would just have more power...although the Z20 really isn't bad...

you just gotta work on ur collective management... you will be suprised you can do alot of stuff with very little pitch. plus i dont think 3d is just twirling the sticks around and seeing how fast you can move your heli, so i can do all the stunts just a little slower with the z20 and its fine for me... then maybe ill get those 3500 packs and make it fly like a rocket lol

Your right about the collective management, but I see no benifit to increasing the HS past 2100 - 2200 with the 15t pinion if I am goig to loose flight time, increase amp draw, and i don't have any good use or feel the difference.
I'm just saying for the way i fly right now, the 14t seems to do the best job. I still need to watch the collective no matter what pinion I use.
I'm no 3D banger by any means..just getting into flips, rolls, nose in, and trying some upside down for like 2 sec's.
I recently lowered my norm HS to 1800 and it was a blast flying around a small field I would not normally have tried. The Z20 is a great motor. I will most likely try a Scorpion 1000kv for my CF, fully blinged 550 whenever I feel the need. I'm having too much fun with the plastic one at this time.
