Well guys the muffler came loose tonight and guess what happened ?? Well a picture can say a thousand words so I'll let the picture do the talking.
It looks like it was not welded, or brased, I'm not really sure what was used.
The end cap is a nice tight fit when re-fitted, I just do not know...
Why it hapened ?
How to re-attach ?
Thanks for any help...........

BTW the engine is a standard 231 which I cannot get to run consistantly.

I would suggest returning the muffler to the shop that you purchased it from. They will either replace it or return it to Hatori for a replacement.
I have seen a few welds fail with Hatori over the last 15 years. But very few. Hatori will make it good.
What carb do you have on your 231? Do a search in the forum here and see what carb is the best.

David,
Machine was bought second hand but the original owner bought it from Motors and Rotors in the UK. I'd prefer to have a go at fixing it if possible, but sending it back is certianly an option.
Carb is a 643, I have removed the choke assy. for fitting of the "Spectra" air cleaner.
It's my first gasser I feel like I am at the bottom of a very steep learning curve.

The 643 is the preferred carb. Make sure the primer bulb has no holes in it .. even if their VERY small.
It that's ok the butterfly rods where they pivot on the carb could be worn and sucking air. Bad ju ju! :D
Of course the fact that the pipe end cap was leaking could also cause problems with mixture.
I'd get the pipe fixed or replaced and then chase the carb problem. ;)
