Have you ever had problems of static with the system FASST?
Do you have any information about this topic?
I have some doubts related to purchase between:
Futaba T12FG 2.4
JR 9303 2.4
Recommendations?
Thanks.

I have been using a 12Z FASST module with two 6014 and one 617 receiver on two 600e's and one 500. I have had ZERO blackouts/brownouts, static interference, lockouts or anything. I have nothing to complain about as far as the FASST system goes.

i use the 7c 2.4 with r606fs receivers and have had zero lockouts/brownouts.

I have always found those posts about 2.4 and lockouts due to static to be interesting.
We run FASST on numerous machines that have belt drives in both CF and aluminum booms.
I have never done anything special like grounding wires or static spray and yet we have never had glitching, jumping, sparking, or unexplainable loss of control problems.
This is our cold, dry air season. Every time I get out of my car I get zapped but the helis keep on chugging away.

There are 1000's of pilots running DX RX's that have also not had any issues. AR7000's in all my helis and no problems.
The static issue is not 100% and thus because I believe there are many more running DX RX's it has been seen when static is a problem. I don't think there are as large a number running FASST in a Trex500 to get a answer IF they are also effected. So statistically speaking this question probably isn't valid YET until more FASST users get a T500.
Static on the 500 IS REAL folks. The question is, if an arc to a servo wire or other radio component will effect FASST RX's?
What is the boot time of FASST? If it is super quick like a FM PCM RX then that is a positive for sure.
So lets not go forth saying FASST is immune to static as I don't think that can be claimed without more statistical data and use with the 500.

I agree 100% with that Bob

Yes, I agree, although I must say I haven't experienced any issues with my 2.4 6ex Futaba on my 500. I do want to share something with all of you though, take it or leave it. I had initially gotten of course just the stock bird and I do remember when first firing it up a few times there seemed to be this weird, not wanting to really spin up to throttle that I was commanding from the radio. I remember just pulling down and waiting a sec and then spooling back up and things were fine. I thought maybe it was just me, anyway, I very shortly after that bought all the metal upgrades, not because of this issue, but for the bling. Looking back though, I must say, I have never had another issue like this since I have upgraded to the metal tail housing and metal bearing blocks.. Now, again, maybe just me, but looking back it does seem that there might be some connection...???
Finless, any thoughts on my rambling ??? :-)

Hmmm not really... I don't think that was static though as the heli has to spin up to develop it. If you were having an initial spin up problem I doubt it was static. Not sure what that could have been other than a ESC programming or other programming issue (like maybe throttle channel low stick signal).... Just a guess.

O.k., again maybe just me, but I haven't changed the throttle settings on the radio and I haven't reprogrammed the ESC.. But, heck, maybe again its me... :-)

Well I'm running on 2.4 FASST system and I do have problems, had none on 72MHZ but now since I'm on FASST have not been able to fly it. I get quick tail shifts but no total lock outs.

Have you installed the metal bearing blocks and the metal tail ???

I have the metal bearing blocks and the metal tail.

Just a quick check please. I had the same issue because on the metal tail hub on the back there is one screw that holds the outside arm to the assembly. Make sure that screw is not loose. Also, make sure your belt is not to tight..

The screw is on the inside and it holds the slider arm assembly.

I just checked and it is fine. On another post some said that he had the same problem and changed the gyro location, mine is on the bottom of the tail boom support, like on my 450, would it help if I put it on top?
jessegodsey
03-29-2008, 08:33 PM
Well, mine is on top and I have not had any problems at all once the belt was adjusted. I will tell you though that if your at mid stick and your tail slider is not in the middle and your tail servo is not at 12 o'clock, your going to be fighting it. Make double sure mechanically that everything on the tail is setup this way. Also, make sure there is absolutely NO binding anywhere on the tail. Also, make sure while your getting this all aligned that you have no trim set on the radio. All normal mode trims should be at 0 when your lining everything up at 90's on the servos and swash and head arms and about 12 o'clock on the tail servo.

Oh yeahh, also if your ball on the tail servo arm is all the way out on the end, move it in to the next hole toward the servo, this I have also seen cause weird tail issues.

Ball is one hole in and everything is 90 degrees. I just placed the the gyro on the top of the tail boom support and I will try it tomorrow.

Futaba just put out a warning in the latest AMA publication warning of a bad run of equipment that can render FASST prone to interference by other FASST users.....
You will all now have to check the Serial #'s to verify who you can safely fly with without Freq. monitoring......
I'm glad Futaba put ou the warning, but jeez...they just blew it big time.....

Joe, is this it?
Advisory on Futaba 2.4 GHZ FASST
Systems
“From the AMA Website”
This was posted today on AMA's website and
also on the District II website follows:
This service advisory affects only owners of the
Futaba TM-7 module and 6EX and 7C FASST
systems. Each FASST transmitter contains a
unique eight digit identification code,
programmed at the factory to identify the
respective transmitter and to allow a receiver to
be paired only to that radio’s signal. Recently
we have learned that a very small number of
the TM-7 modules, and 6EX and 7C FASST
systems were incorrectly coded with a common
code number during the manufacturing process.
These units were subsequently sold prior to our
awareness of the situation.
If two or more units, utilizing this common
identification code, were to be in use
simultaneously, they may cause interference
with one another. Please note: Units which
utilize the correct identification code will not be
affected by these units.
We’re extremely confident that this is not a
widespread problem. We know of only one
instance in the United States. However, to give
you peace of mind that your system is not
affected, we will soon be setting up test stations
at participating hobby shops throughout the
country where you will be able to go to
determine -- within a matter of minutes --
whether or not your transmitter is affected, at no
charge to you. Or, if you prefer, you may send it
in to our service center we will analyze it for you
at no charge. If any problem is found, it will be
replaced. We will gladly pay the postage for
returning the unit and sending it back to you.
If you have questions or concerns, please do
not hesitate to contact our Futaba Service
Center at: 217-398-0007 or via email at:
service@futaba-rc.com. Our staff is available to
you Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm U.S. Central
Standard Time.

Yes, I went out to the super market go a can of Static Guard sprayed a little in the canopy and on the belt and have my 3 flights without any sign of a problem...my first flights since I'm on 2.4. Now I love this heli more than my 450.
