I have FHS set up on my computer with control via my DX6i Tx. I am planning on getting Phoenix, but right now FHS is the only sim I have running. I have tried another one but there is no sound and for some reason, my newbie brain needs it.

My first goal is to learn how to fly the heli like a heli, without the 3D. I am probably more of a scale modeler/flyer than a 3D flyer (at least for right now). In FHS I have flown the three-dee and the hughes heli. There is quite a response difference between the two of them. I am also not sure how accurate this difference may be in a real heli. If it is some what accurate, would I be able to set up my B4 and Tx so I started flying with a heli that responds like the hughes in FHS? Or is my heli going to always fly like the more responsive three-dee?

haven't tried to set up the DX6i in FHS as i went to the one you talk about without sound (HeliSimRC) as it's a much more realistic sim even without sound, which i believe the maker is working on

to set up you need to make a new model in ya DX6i and make sure the swash is 90% not the 120% then open the program on ya puter and set the controls in there for joystick, callabrate and map then it works fine

I have no problem with the sims working. The question is in regard to the actual heli once I begin to try and fly it in real life (not on a sim). Once I am ready to start trying to fly it, can I adjust the Tx and tweak the heli, so it flies more like the Hughes in FHS rather than the Three-dee. I do not want a twitchy beast capable of 3D. I want to fly it like a real heli.

Hi Helimix, I have been practicing on FMS for quite a while and after two very short (20 seconds) hover attemps discovered the Blade 400 is one very twitchy beast at stock setups.

So on my sim I found the most twitchy beast, a Trex (think I downloaded it). It was good, cause then I was able to muck around with the expo settings on the tranny to see how it affected the sim. I might point out that the expo had much less effect on the sim than in real life, I had to put about 50% + to reduce the sensitivity.

So back to the 400, I now have the expo on aileron, elevator and rudder set at about +35% plus set the DR for the rudder to 80% and that has calmed it down quite a bit. I still had a lot of problem with the pitch being way to responsive at hover, as in trying to land it was bouncing up and down like a yoyo. So I have altered the pitch to a -S curve, as in flatter around mid stick and same with the throttle. ie, pitch in normal mode now reads something like 40, 45, 55, 70, 90 and the throttle is now 0, 35, 50, 65, 90. (cant remember where I exactly left them) as I was playing round quite a bit

Admittedly I dont have full thrust now, but after a quick play it is way more than enough to get me both into and out of trouble!

One strange thing I did notice, after playing with the throttle curve (with both TX and RX switched on but with throttle hold engaged to be safe) I suddenly didnt have 0 throttle any more and had to throw in some trim to get the motor to stop. I havent yet tried rebinding to see if that makes a difference, but need 3 or 4 click of trim down on the throttle to get the motor to stop.

Great. Thanks for the detailed info SeaComms. Glad I will be able to tone her down a little. I knew it was going to be a twitchy machine.

I had the same phenomenon with being unable to go to 0 throttle you described. After much trial and error I discovered this occurs If you connect the battery on the heli to the receiver with the TH HOLD in the 1 position (ON) on the transmitter. Just disconnect the battery, switch the TH HOLD to the 0 position (OFF) on the transmitter then reconnect the battery. Make sure you move your throttle trim back to the null position before you try and fly.

Cool, thanks CoptrDoctr, saves me a lot of stuffing around! And in hindsight, thats probably what I did as I was stuffing around with throttle hold to try and get my landings a little softer.

Weather is absolutely perfect here, so I am gunna go venture out and see if I can find a local park not inhabited by kids and break this thing out of the confines of the backard. Wish me luck!
