Being a noob who will not be attempting 3D for awhile, I've set up my swash to be 7mm at zero stick, not mid stick. Swash and flybar level, zero pitch, all arms 90°. Is this correct, or should I be at mid stick?

what you should do is watch Finless' videos on pitch curves. Given a linear pitch curve from 0 to 100, you should be 7mm 0 degrees pitch at mid stick (stick outputs a 50). Then, when you set your normal (non 3d) pitch curve, you have it start at -2 degrees so when your stick is all the way down you are almost at zero pitch. Watch the videos..
