View Full Version : Class 1 Helicopter questions
I have a 50 size Quick Helicopter that I am interested in learning the Class 1 patterns with. Would this heli be good to start F3C with or if not what should I look for. I would like a 50 to 60 size machine to start with. Is a governor needed? What are the advantages of a Black Shark body over a pod and boom at the lower classes? Is there any competitions around PA or NY? Where can I find someone from eastern PA to help me get started? Thanks for any info.

A 50 size heli will work fine if set up correctly. It is not going to be as stable as the larger helis. But it can still be made to fly well and is capable of doing well if the pilot and machine are in sync.
As for contests, there is only about 3-4 a year
Tampa, Florida March
There is going to be one this year in South Carolina
Nashville, TN June
Nats Muncie, IN July
As for contest pilots in PA or help. I don't know of anyone in that area that use to or still does fly in contests. Several years ago there were several pilots from the Northeast that use to compete. But they have not been involved since 2000.
A fuselage will help the heli in the aerobatic maneuvers. A governor is not really needed. But it could be beneficial if your not experienced in setting up throttle curves.

There are 5 confirmed events on the schedule so far this season, with a possible 6th and 7th in the works (no confirmed dates yet). There is a sticky at the top of the Contest Forum with the 2008 Contest Schedule and the appropriate event information.

Yes I forgot about the event in Viginia. It is also going to be a large fun fly. So there will be mostly 3D pilots also. Clay and Joe are doing a great job getting that event organized. It should be a great fun fly/ AMA contest.
