View Full Version : Power Supply Help for Hyperion Duo
Ordered my Duo last week. I was about to purchase a PS on ebay but wanted to double check. I want to be able to charge a 2x 6s2500/25c lipos. I found a great deal on a 350W 13.8v 29A power supply. That should be more than enough, right? I have the option of getting one that is 500W 13.8v 40A but it is twice as much. What can I get away with here? Do I want higher voltage (15, 24) and less amps?

29 amps is more than enough
The manual says to get maximum output from the charger the input needs to be 15 V minimum. So 13,8 is not giving enough Volt.
I got a powersupply that gives 24-29 Volt with max 20 Amps. So I can get almost 2c on two 6S 5000 Trex batts.
I tested this pretty thoroughly with A123's 6s @10A that push the charger all the way. On a ~13V source it will pull 30A when cranked right up.
At 14.5V I was getting a full 360W, but that drops a little as the voltage drops. A very good 13.8V source should get you into the 160w per port range around ~90% of rated output. It runs extremely efficiently on 24V and requires only 16A to run at full bore.

Lodi, If its the power supply I think it is they will supply a 15V version as well. If it is the ac switching ones they allow about a 5-7% +/- on the o/p voltage. Read the add closely to see if this is true.
It is always better to have a 40A power supply and using 30A than to draw 30A from a 30A supply and it allows for it if you need that little extra down the track.
