Fired up the 700 last night, got a few issues to sort tonight then will fire it up again.

The 600N is done and needs fine tuning, ran the engine for a bit tonight, it's ready to go.

The Raptor won't take much to get it all happy again. :smokin:

Since OCMA is "under construction" it looks like Whittier is the best choice on Sunday..........for us LA guys.

A couple of us are hoping to fly Whittier during the week, hopefully.

weip98, hope to see you out there some time soon, we're always there for the new guy and hope we can be of some help. :YeaBaby:

Awesome.
I hope I can come out to fly this weekend with you all
wherever that may be...since you all follow your gut. :YeaBaby:

I'm still getting comfortable with nose in hover.
so I'm not going to be all over the field...I just need a little
corner to myself. hehehe

We were all there once don't worry about it. There was a time I knew I would be crashing at get togethers and brought enough 450 parts for 5 crashes.

My Sat is blown out. Sunday at Whititier, should be good to go.

Mike, I have two 450SEs, one night flyer one day time. Both Scorpion powered.

Do a search:

Whittier Narrows

Apollo field..........Woodley Park

Probably the easiest way to get directions. :YeaBaby:

what he said

NW quadrant of park, Where the 60 and the red line intersect. Right next to the gun range, there are a couple gun ranges in the area. Park workers can point you in the right direction.

Usually by 9 or so, the park is open dawn to dusk.

Whittier will be closed Saturday, per the sign that was posted.

Made a mistake on the 600N today. Using the 7100R, I figured I'd get to setting up the rev limiter after I made a few break in flights, that didn't work out so good.

Had the gain channel plugged into the wrong port, gear instead of aux 2, didn't calibrate it etc..........

So, it idled fine, spooled up ok, but then when it got up to rpm I had no control over the throttle, nothing would cut the throttle, nothing, so I flew out the tank and landed without incedent. Engine temp @ 180 deg F. After landing, I couldn't find anything wrong with the throttle set up, throttle hold worked right, idle up, etc...

But it did seem to hold the headspeed ok, Richard also commented that it did hold the headspeed like in gov mode. Kinda weird?

Just thought some of you might like to know. :YeaBaby:

Now, I'm learning how the gyro sense menu works with the DX7.

Lucky it limited it to a reasonable RPM. whew glad it turned out ok Mitch.

I never liked the AR7100r's governor.

HeliSmith
09-20-2008, 02:00 PM
Don't like it either after seeing it on Jason V.'s machine. Opt'd to pass and just go with the AR7100 + governor.

Almost ready to fire my 700 but my 8717 is grindy. I put up a video here if anyone wants to comment on if I should swap it out I have another one.

Yeah good to meet you all.

Tons of people. I really like the way Whittier is set up.
Has bathrooms, lots of shade and a kids playground not too far
away from the flying area...

This means I can bring the wife and kid next time.

My main blades did get a lot of bug guts on it. hehehe

Does anyone have any pics to post of today?

Siezed up my SX again on Sunday. I'll go into the why later...........

On the bright side, in the for sale section here, 91SZ non pumped engine, $175 with extra case and head, new bearings, used top end but supposed to be in good condition He seems like a straight up guy.:thumbup:

The SZ should have slightly more hp than the SX and should be a little more forgiving when I hammer the pitch. I'm trying to learn how to fly smooth so I don't bog it but get good response, so "hammering the pitch" for me would be when I made a mistake. I can't do the stuff that requires more power yet so it would just be a waste of power.

My SX put out pretty good power, not fantastic but smooth flying made it sing.

One of the backplates is drilled and tapped for a pump, I have a pump I can put in it off my SX. Should I?

I'm thinking NO, less stuff means less stuff can go wrong.

The 53H seems to run great and it isn't pumped.
