we know its not hard to make the pipe and weld it together, thats your dept. but to make the same thing each time might be harder. tuned expansion chambers work best for top rpms.look at racing planks and boats for rc.

I know, and that's what has been bugging me. Making 1000 of them identical wouldn't be hard.

What if you could increase your hp by %10, I know %10 seems small but it's a lot. Take a 3.3 hp engine to 3.7 or 3.8 hp? It would open up the possibilities for different set ups, no bogging, use more pitch or gear ratio.

These pipes seem very crude, like a chainsaw muffler.

I doubt they scavenge very efficiently, the design as far as flow is concerned is terrible, the exhaust goes straight into a baffle that is 90deg to the flow of the exhaust.

I need to do more research. :YeaBaby:

MItch,

I thought your ship had more power than mine, did you think the reverse?

Next time we are out, we should hover them and punch the throttles to compare.

I do think yours will win.

I went back to Whittier today. It was beautiful, clear, and extremely hot.

Flew the Knight 3D three or four times, then took off with the Raptor .903D, just in time for them to start mowing the lawn, so I packed up.

Should of gave me a call, I would of come out to fly. I thought about calling you and see if you were up for it. :YeaBaby: I'll be there Sunday unless I turf it before then.

I didn't really think my engine would have more power, it is an old SX C spec and I thought the Hatori pipe made good power. Guess they're just proud of their stuff and charge accordingly.

The Carb Smart works great and is more efficient but I didn't expect a big change in performance, I was expecting it to be more consistent...and one thing that is really nice is I don't have to fiddle with the mixture depending on elevation or whatever, just set a baseline and let it do the job from there. I like it. :cheers

your right 10% doesnt sound like much but its a lot when your dealing glo engines.10% would make these engines spin faster and with more torq = more fun.

Mitch,

I will call you next time I manage to escape during the week.

I am still planning on going to Whittier Narrows tomorrow, shortly after noon.

By the way, Scott, Kenny, and JMD were their yesterday. Jack had a gasoline powered TREX 600N. It flew quite well (all his stuff flies well).

I plan on going to Whittier Sunday, EARLY. Get a few flights in before it gets too hot and then bail when it heats up. It got up to 97 today.

Wow, it got hot! I left by 12:30, so did most of the rest of the group.

The Raptor90 had the throttle arm fall off in flight, luckily it went down to just above an idle but it did create an emergency landing. No damage.

Will have some pics up a little later, a few different heli's, they should be pretty decent.:smokin:

MItch,

I left right after you did on Sunday-I was just too tired.

I figured that the life span of the helicopter would be very short if I continued.

It was good flying with you again, and nice to see your young lady out there as well!

Hello everyone.

I'm new to the hobby. always wanted to do this as a kid, but finally got in now at age 36.
hehehe. Yea Yea...I almost need to post into the Old Farts Forum.

anyways, I'm building my Trex 450 now. gradually aquiring all the parts I need.
Still need a gyro, tail servo, main blades, transmitter and receiver.

when I finally finish this thing...probably in the next month or so, I would love to come
out to a field somewhere and get some help getting this thing off the ground.

I've been watching all the Finless videos on the building part and very carefully doing things
as instructed. everyone advises to have an expert look over the build once it is done.

any chance one of you would be willing to help me out?

I think any of us would be willing to assist you.

How close are you to the Rose Bowl?

That is a goodflying site for electrics also.

it's across town from me, but only takes like 40 min for me to get there.

I'm still about a month away from completing the build.

But I will certainly be looking to go to field when it is done to test it.

you can meet Finless himself at Arbor park in Seal Beach.. we will all give you any help you need , have your heli completely checked out before you spool up for the first time. this will save you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. you can also find most of us in the OC threds.

Airboss,

Please tell Finless that I am still waiting for the Crickt Build/Set-Up videos...
(I have been waiting for 28 years now...)

if it costs more to shoot the vid than the heli is worth we might have a problem. lol. he is always looking in on your thred so if you got something to say, go for it! WTF is a cricket? I'm not familliar with that model?

Ah Clem
04-16-2008, 04:58 PM
The Cricket was a .28 sized fixed pitch machine produced by GMP beginning in 1980. I was, at the time, a field rep for GMP. The were reliable and very manueverable for their time. If memory serves, over 10,000 of them were produced.

A whole bunch of us, including Bob (who has lots and lots of time on Crickets), used to fly them at Jordan Jr. High School in Garden Grove, back in the early 1980's.

A Cricket was seen hovering into the front of a local liquor store, as well as through the drive through of the Pup'N'Taco (Belch and Squirt) next to Orange Coast Hobbies.
(The guy at the drive through window, by the way, had no sense of humor, whatsoever...).

The Cricket could loop and roll (one of the guys had one with a liquid cooled K & B .21 in it-it is, to this day, the fastest responding helicopter I have ever seen), but was best used in crusing around, or chasing R/C cars down on the deck.

Ahhhhhh.....

The good old days...
