now I know more about the cricket , I thought it was one of those little toy jobs. might be a tough vid . did they have cameras back then? lol JK. I remember stopping at the school , on my way home from MSP to see some heli flying and was bored to death in about 10 minutes. It was all about planes for me back then cause those helis just werent fast enough. times have changed, now the planes put me to sleep.

Airboss,

I was stuck here-behind a desk-ALL D@MN DAY!!!.

The weather (what little I saw of it) looked great.

Mitch,

I managed to get two packages of those screaming, yellow ball links. That should be more than enough. The Commander is now partially re-assembled with the canopy temporarily installed. The motor, fan, clutch, and starter belt (yes, starter belt) are installed also.

This thing is gradually coming together from three different helicopters (two Commanders and one Rev. II).

I had forgotten how ugly these things were (someone-not I-once described them as looking like a "Giant Flying Sperm").

You have not seen drag in a mechanical system until you have seen a helicopter with a new, flat belt tail drive.

I cannot wait to hear the noise of a large glow motor filtered through a Heloball again!

I am now looking for a source of very small O-rings for the OS 7B carb, and some 1/4" or 5/16" surgical tubing for the head dampers (the original tubing was not in very good condition after almost 30 years).

Still several weeks away from bringing this thing out and flying it.

Another great day of flying.

Good to see Jason and Long. Bert did some fine tuning on the Raptor, it flys great and has lots of performance, he also hooked me up with a part that was broken on the Raptor that had ended my day until he showed back up.

Talked with "mad dave" from sunland, he was charging a battery in his garage, fell asleep and the next thing he heard was people pounding on his door because his house was on fire, burnt the garage out as well as other damage to the house, destroyed his heli fleet and his Harley.

A reminder that Lipo's can and will start a fire.

The Radix blades for my Trex 600 were in his garage and burnt up as well.

Very scary and sorry to hear this! :(

Can you find out more specific details on what equipment was used and what happened? Might at least help the next guy avoid a similar disaster.

Rob: The bottom line is, he did everything wrong. Had the charger/battery on a flammable surface with fuel sitting next to it and left it unattended while charging.

I know I'm not getting all of the details, yet.

He's lucky all that he lost was some material stuff that can be replaced, he could be sitting in the burn ward or worse.

As far as the carb smart goes, the one I have has worked perfectly so far, a few have had problems but take into account that tens of thousands of these are being sold and you will always have a few fail and a few fail due to operator error. I love it, but keep in mind that you need to get your engine close to where you want it and then the carb smart will take it from there.

I've run it out of fuel and the carb smart went to full rich position, protecting the engine from damage......to a point. what I like to most about it is that I don't have to change any settings because of elevation. It runs at 194 deg. all the time.

the battery was a common sense battery, he said he's had two others of the same brand that had the same problem. I know I'm not getting all of the details, yet.

those things do work I have heard nothing but good from all who use them.

I've never used them and was reluctant to post that, but that is the facts. I edited out the manufacturer because it may not be the battery that was at fault, I didn't mean to imply that it was.

I would be interested to know what exactly happened, what condition was the battery in, what charger and balancer, etc....did he ever run it down too low or was it puffed...

It's likely that it should of been thrown away. Don't know the details but it should make everyone aware that this can happen.

My best advice is to charge on a surface that is non flammable and vented, the hearth of the fireplace is the best I can think of, but it must be open so it can vent any gasses in the event of a fire. the gasses are way bad for you.
