View Full Version : Los Angeles Heli flyers.
Great pics Mitch (Or should I say Wendy ;)) Thanks
Jim is correct about the distortion in the photos. Maybe try a higher shutter speed?
The little one is just a HoneyBee CP2 and is almost the same as a Blade CP using a tail motor. The King is bigger and comes with either a belt or shaft driven tail. It's still a kick to fly inverted backward with the HoneyBee!
Great day at Whitter! A bit crowded, but I still got 11 flights in :smokin:
Good to see you Mitch. The Raptor is flying GREAT! :Bang

Custom painted canopys for the Raptor?
I had a website bookmarked a while back but it got wiped out.
yep, the raptor bit the dust.
Servo arm/horn broke in flight, I can't tell you how happy I am about that. faak.

I'm not going to spend a bunch of money on it again. It's going to get the old canopy put back on after I straighten it out as much as I can and put an aluminum boom on it. No carbon goodies are going back on it, for now.
I'm not going to put a bunch of expensive stuff on it again, except the blades, the Radix blades are my favorite. Other than that, I'm gonna cheap out on this *****.
I actually got lucky that it didn't destroy more stuff but that's little consulation when the repair bill is over $300 and my nice canopy got destroyed.
All because a .50 cent arm failed. There was no way I could of known it would fail. I checked everything over two days before.
A nice looking heli is nice and all but it's too expensive. I'm going to fly beaters for now.
Selling one of my 450s to help pay for the rebuild.
This is the second time this heli has found it's way to terra firma on it's own.
If I dumb thumb this thing into the ground next time it crashs I'll be happy that it was my flying skills that did it.
First time the main rotor head let go. This time a servo horn/arm let go. WTF
Some of you know the powerless feeling when watching your heli fall out of the sky and there is nothing you can do. Sucks ass!

MItch,
Sorry to hear about the Raptor. That is the price we pay for flying. If you don't fly them and enjoy them, they last forever-there is no point in that.
What arm/what servo failed? The arms get old and brittle after a while (I have had some turn yellow with age, but that takes years).
You will have it back to its old self in no time.
How close is the TREX 600N?

Mitch , that was a sad sight to see. there are aluminum arms available if you think that might be a problem.dont cheap it out too much, canomod sells canopy's for rappy.
All my lipos are sold and trex 600 is pending funds for its sale.
no more norelco razors here.that should make finless happy since I wont be bugging him at AP anymore.

I bought aluminum arms for the 8717s and they didn't fit. May have to try different ones. I've also got the push pull set up for both that need them, just haven't put them on, didn't see the need until now. After the fact.
I can't afford a Canomod canopy today, maybe later, also, I didn't see the new style one like I had on their site. Besides, the ones they have look just like everyone elses. The costs are outweighing the fun/flight times. I got about two gallons through it since it's last crash.
Rich, it was the elev servo that let go, I was doing tight back flips and it wouldn't stop doing them so my only option was to hit throttle hold.

Looking around for a canomod canopy, most dealers listed don't have anything for the 90, and those that do, all they have is a plain white 3D composite like I had for $80. I'm going to straighten out the old crashed plastic canopy and use that.
I don't know, this thing is going on the back burner, same with the 600, too much money to get either flying, for now, I'll get back to it but I'm working on my bikes for now.
Put yourself in my position.

I guess so?
Building my Turbo Busa. Got tired of my heli destroying itself and it's not getting anymore money spent on it this week. I'll get back to it, I'm just not in a hurry.
That last crash really took the fun out of it, tired of that crap. Money pit. Hard to get excited about fixing it only to watch it burn in again due to something else, I don't know that it won't.
I've got a brand new 600N just sitting there, it's built but needs servos, pipe,rx, couple other things but were talking about a few hundred bucks on that as well. I don't have the money to spend on it and I don't like half ass'n stuff.
This hobby has taken too much energy recently so I've gone back to my primary hobby, motorcycles. Considering doing some Speedway racing, I spent a couple seasons road racing Willow but that's too expensive and you can really get hurt, I can't afford injurys anymore.
This thread is more like my blog than anything, that wasn't the intent but whatever.
I don't have the energy or desire to carry this thread any longer, if the LA guys want it, they're going to have to step up.
When I go flying again I'll likely come out and visit the OCMA crew, great group of guys.
Or I may just sell all this stuff off and walk away? I've thought about it but that doesn't mean I'm going to act on it.
It can wait til I decide one way or the other, no hurry.
I still fly my 450s in front of my house a few times a week.

Mitch,
Do not give up.
You have worked hard to get this far, this soon.
It would be a shame to waste your hard work and talent.
Let is sit for a bit then, when you feel like it, start working on things again.
I go through periods when it seems that everything that I touch turns to sh!t (do not shake hands with me when this is going on), then it gets better again.
Raptor parts are easy to come by, so you can tackle that when the mood strikes. As an alternative, you will find the 600N to be smooth and very easy to fly, when you feel like getting it running.
Don't give up, just take a short break.
