Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post but as it's to do with my Ion why not.

I find myself lacking to try new things with the Ion because of the crash cost etc so do I buy a cheap machine to practice with ? But then I added it up to kit out a cheap machine and I could by another two sets of lipo's for the Ion and still have a bit left over.

What do you think ?

Simon.

That is one of the problems with expensive ships.
I have seen several people whos progress has all but stoped after "upgrading" to a high end machine.
You either need to get over your fear of $$$ or get the cheap machine that you do not care if it crashes.

Just my $.02

Simon,
Unless you go to a 30 or 50 size plastic heli. The crash cost of the Ion is not any different from any of the other 90 size helis.
There has been several price comparsions done on the forums for crash costs. They all are within a few dollars of each other for the 90 size helis.

I was going to get a rap 50 or evo 50, even to kit one of these out with good servo's rx, gyro, engine etc it's over £1000 here in the UK, i know i could order it overseas but then i've always got the risk of paying import tax.

Seems mad splashing out £1000 for a practice heli when I have a nice Ion to fly.

Desision's, desision's :? :?:

If you want cheap get yourself one of the latest 50 sized plastic fantastics. Good on the fuel and very capable machines right out of the box. You can get the ARF ones for under 300 and they fly good enough for good practicing. 600mm blades are much cheaper. Parts are WAY cheaper than a big machine. Performance is not that of a hot Ion, but it is VERY good and fun.

Downside... I think most people would agree there is more maintenance and close inspection needed to keep it flying optimally or even just flying than the Ion. Initial investment cost of the 50 setup including Hyper/JK Hatori. ;) )

For example.. If you fly it hard at all you will have to stay on top of the dampeners, bell mixers and washout unit/arms to keep them from getting very sloppy or falling off and on all the places where screws meet plastic. From here the different brand machines have different individual needs but they all fly pretty good.

BUY more lipos man :D stay wiht youre ION i have had 4 major crashes and have yet to see my packs get screwed up.The only thing that can even match it performance was is 90 size Extreme! Youcan buy a plastic 90 size but if you sit down andadd crash cost you will be in the same ball park!!
Just fly it real high that way you can try stuff and have plentyof time to recover

Simon, just fly your Acrobat!!! Don't think about crashing, it will happen. There's a bloke here in the Netherlands that crashed his fury 15+ times, now he has a Raptor 50. Do you think he stops crashing? Its just cheaper.

I'd look at it this way: Even something close to what you have now would cost more then 3 crashes of your Ionx. Just crash them trying, it WILL be cheaper then buying a new one.

Just bought an Evo 50, it's purely going to be my 'try new things heli and if it goes wrong I wont cry  ' BUT I aint selling the Ion it's way to nice

I will get another set of lipo's soon :clappp

I here you , when I built mine , and on the first flight , I said to myself , what the hell , just go for it , to my supprize it had the power to get me out of trouble just as fast as I got into trouble , like they say , 1 mistake high make a big difference

sounds like you need more time on the sim , I just started 3ding , or maybe 2 ding when I started flying the Ion 1 1/2 months ago , but I had a few hours on the sim this past winter that really helped out , one is I dont loose the heli , and if so , I have a great bail out plan , either roll or swing tail and go from there ,

I do go on the sim most days not for long. I find I go to try something for a few mins then end up just messing around on it. it's the flying around inverted forwards and backwards that hold me back :?

Hello Simon, I also own an Ion and I can relate to the $fear$. This heli is by far the best one I've owned, although the Joker I'm starting to fly now on 32-NiCds is slowly showing it's potential (bought from Misskimo btw, thanks man!!).

I never just try something new with the ION before mastering it in the Sim first. This is the secret to minimizing crashes... I think. I practice the new moves in the simulator until I can do them with my eyes closed. Then all I have to do with the Ion is fine tune. Works great!!! I also try new things with my T-Rex first , since there's almost no fear with it. Good luck.

I thinking of trying some Tanics, who's using them and how do you like them.

Which ones do I need, theres loads of them on East cost website :?

I was using TP's 10s4p Pro-Lites some looking for something the same or better

How is Tanic's customer service ?

hey , I think the service is top notch , and there batteries seam to hang in there with the TPs , the 8880s , kinda on the heavy side , but the Ion can handle it well, so far on my Ion with the 8000 prolites and the 1/2 a pound weight loss Im seeing one bad ass heli , with the 6000s prolites my heli weighes in at 9 1/2 pounds , kinda lite , too lite ! but be great for drag racing, but for 3D its bad to the bone , Karl flew it yesterday after putting on the 32-3 heli version motor and the only thing he could say is DAMN!! what a jump , Im running a V curve with the 40-70 100 95 100 , all this time I been running my Ion at 95 95 95 95 95 in non gov mode before yesterday , huh? but my Fury was in gov , it 3D well in gov
I just got done reconfigureing the fury for 2 packs 1 6s4p 5300 and 1 7s4p 5300, lost about 4 oz , and setting the esc in non gov with a V curve like the Ion .
if I dont like that headspeed , I will try 2 7s4p next

Wait and see how 12s2p of the newest cell design works out. You may save a decent amount of $$, but you would have to upgrade your ESC if you are running the Hacker.
