Hi there hoping someone with a carbon frame can help me with this one.
I am planning on converting my plastic frame hurricane to a HV setup and want a setup to do 9S lipo (three 3S trex batts in series) and 10S A123. I work in a sheetmetal shop and have access to a laser cutter so I'm planning on building my own ali frames with a revised servo and battery layout (so it will balance and I can keep the A123 pack as a 10s brick) and using the gaui bearing blocks to tie it all together. So I'm hoping someone out there with a carbon frame could scan the sideplates for me as a jpg file - I can then convert the scanned image to a dxf file and would save me a heap of time measuring the plastic frame layout.

the Gaui Carbon frame will not work for what you want, look at the Customs heli frame at ready heli, or I preffer the Rotorworkz frame. and for the price honestly I would not mess with building one from Aluminum. just go buy one of the others!! the rotorworkz offers the most versitility on balance with larger packs, and the Customs frame is the lightest and it will take 10s A123 but may not balance out as well

if your really determined to make your own frame you could just buy one replacement upper frame for the carbon hurry or any of the other aftermarket frames and get the dimensions you need. only the upper frame has all the holes in the locations you need to worry about, the lower frame doesnt carry anything mechanical you can make up your own lower frame to suit your prefered landing gear.
The plastic frame will be a real PITA to measure.

Hi Concept1 thanks for the info on the Rotorworkz and Customs Heli Frames. I'm still set on making my own frames as I also want to make it a little taller put the longer boom on and either run 530 or 550 blades. Will prototype in aluminium as I have material and machine time to make and if it works out I will probably look at either carbon or G10.
Hi Wazzer nice idea on just the top frame only thats all I need if I dont manage to get a jpg scan of a frame (hopefully someone doing a new build will be able to help) I'll try cutting up a plastic frame to get the measurements I need.

Would be interested on how you convert a Jpeg scan into a DXF file format?
Can you explain how you do this as i also make my own chassis components from time to time, I would be very grateful
Thanks

Hi Wazzer
Depends on the scan really I have used CorelDraw to open an image manipulate it then export as dxf. You used to be able to get a 30 day trial version of Corel. There are also a few shareware programs online(search jpg to dxf converter) that you can download and trial that do the conversion these take a bit of tweaking to get a good dxf (freind of mine created an amazing looking "laser etched" triumph motorcycle on a piece of stainless steel using one of these). My other option is to use the solid modeling cad software at work and import the image as reference only and model over the top - definitely my least favourite.
Have a look at http://www.metalsoft.com/products/product7/overviewp7.html these part scanners are the best for creating a dxf and will even compare a part to a drawing. unfortunately we dont have one at my work :(

I would recommend the Custon Heli Parts frame, you can easily put 12s lipos or 10sA123. However you will need to mount the tail servo to the boom and add weight to the tail. The CHP frame comes with bearing and bearing blocks, servo horns, whatever it takes from plastic to cf frame is included. When I notice my bearing screeching noise from the plastic frame moving to the new frame solved that problem.
