Again, it is surprisingly stable. Jody did a good job with the "footprint" keeping it wide enough to give a good landing pad.

As a test, I tried to push over the heli while sitting on the mount. It took quite a bit, more than you would normally experience. Having said that, a bad sliding landing at the end of an auto will certainly cause a tip over. The objective would be to STOP all movement, fore and aft, side to side, before setting it down.

A front mount system, just slide it on in!! Pro's and Con's....

Why didnt Jody use retracts like his mark 4 mounts? You could have brought the gimbal closer to the ground and it wouldnt be so tall. A wider frame with retracted legs around the gimbal would be more stable. I guess that would add a little more weight though.

I requested to NOT use the retracts, due to the weight of the camera, helicopter, AND mount. I felt they would be too spindly and add unnecessary complexity.

His solution was simple and effective.

Great vids, that mount with the big camera makes the heli look small.

Looked like there was a bit of pucker factor there.... lol

Well, we're finally making progress on the second of the Industrial Turbines. We've been waiting on the motor, specifically the new gearbox which we will show in detail here and now, You'll love this!!

This is the new Fuel Lubricated gearbox, with new better sealed top and LARGE g'damn bearing in the bottom!! Now that's BEEFY. :)

The rest of the pics show assy of the Turbine, or better known as the Gas Generator. As always with these motors, the machining is beautiful, almost too nice to cover up and hide inside an airframe....

But, the best part is when this puppy fires up. Having been involved with aviation in some way for the majority of my life, I still love the smells and sounds of a turbine whining up through the RPM's.....

Engine complete. Test run without gearbox, let it run for 15-20 minutes. A couple starts, stops, make sure it all works as advertised BEFORE mounting in the heli.

Check for any fuel leaks, vibes, odd ranges of temps, PW, RPM stability, all kinds of things.

This particular motor, started on the second engagement, a light "pop", then that wonderful "whine" of a true Turbine engine. It settled in at 45,000 RPM, plus or minus a few. After a few minutes, took it up to full throttle at 100,000 (my max RPM for bench running), it jumped to 102,000, then back to 100,000.

Working the throttle up and down showed no tendency for flameout, even with quick descents from full throttle to idle at 45,000.

This customer is doing something differnet with the exhaust, hence the cutoff of the curves.

We install the Fwd and Aft Mounts, and the cooling fan, dial indicating them in to each other to ensure the fan hub is square to the clutch system when the engine is mounted.

Engine is mounted into the lower frames, Upper frames are added, gear meshes set, wiring tidied up, fuel bottles installed.

Install tailboom and Blades, all that is left for now is final setup and tail pushrod then we're ready to fly!!
