All those finless Videos, but nothing for the Evo or the Freya?!?! What's up with that?

As for the Evo I don't know why there's no build video, but for the Freya I'm guessing maybe the build is too expensive to do. The Freya kit alone is about $700. Also I have not seen any 90 build videos here. He only has 450s, 500s, and mostly 600 / .50 size heli builds.

I was just being curious as the evo seems to be a very popular 50. I know he can't do all the heli's out there, but was still surprised to not see anything on it or the raptor for that matter.

I would be more than happy to shoot a build video if you wanted to send me the kit, engine, and electronics:P. But seriously some bigger heli builds would be nice. If someone did a build vid on building and setting up a larger bird I think a lot of it could be used on other larger helis as well.

I would be happy too. But you only want one kit, if you are asking might as well ask for two, and make them x-spec kits too!!!

Maybe we can talk mrc into donating one for a build video. I doubt it, but never hurts to ask. I am sure they will be in Toledo this weekend so I will stop in and ask, lol!!!

More seriously though, I do think a larger build video would be nice. As this was my first build, I went through some of the steps a few times before I got them right and it would have been nice to see those steps in video prior to trying them from a picture that has a ton of unreadable info in another language. The book isn't that bad to go from, but still not great either.

I have to re-setup a raptor 60 tail this weekend weather permitting and I am thinking about trying a small build vid. The only problem is I have never setup this big of a bird and especially not with a heading hold gyro, this should be interesting :P. On the up side it is a great chance to rip on someone else's bird:YeaBaby:. Maybe I should re setup my shuttle and shoot some of it, I'm just throwing ideas out there, dunno how much demand there is for it or how useful it would be.

I think that any build video of a larger build should be helpful, even if it is a raptor! ;) Anyway,, As long as it would cover the aspects of what to assemble when and why. The proper types of greases and loctite to use when and where. The other thing that I learned on this build is the way to use soad and water to apply sticker decals without wrinkles. So yes, it could be helpful to have a build video on a ....um....raptor. At least it would be good for something then! :tongue Just kidding, I can't say that. I have never had or flown one, and actually like the way they look.

I may or may not shoot the install of the 401 in the raptor, but I would like to do some re setup on the ShuttleZ. Things like getting rid of the Z bends, proper gyro setup, mechanical setup, and radio setup. I know, I should be shot for mentioning a raptor in the hirobo forum:P, but that was just my next project. I actually like to fly it too, very stable and maneuverable, wait OMG did I just type that:shock:.

Cool, can't wait to check out the video. I think I mentioned this is my first nitro build and coming from the Trex 450, this is a whole new beast!! Any helpful tips would be wonderful, things like hints/tricks for the hpm setup would be awesome as well!

From what I've heard, the Freya is a monster to build.

Well, Now that I have my EVO 50 almost complete....it will fly this week at some point, weather permitting.....I am going to start saving. I am having a hard time deciding no what to save for though. EVO 50 EX or the Freya 90. Honestly it will probably be the Freya for two reasons. 1) Price 2)Already have the EVO 50 so why not go bigger with the Freya?!?!

Oh, and the wife would flip if I spent 1400 on the heli and it would still need another 900 or so to fly!

Oh well, I have time to work on her about that, LOL. Maybe by then I will be educated in heli's enough to try a build video, who knows.

Have you no shame? :clappp

Seriously though, nice read (write) and good points throughout!

Oh, and it's not pronounced "ska-doo". It's "Scuddy".;)

At least that's how the Japanese pronounce it... Comes from Germanic / Viking folklore or something.

The Freya and the EVO are almost identical builds. I have both and there really isn't much of a difference between the two. I'm curious though, why does everyone need a build video? The instructions are pretty good and the machine is straight forward to assemble. Is it a setup thing or a mechanical treatise that everyone is looking for?

I personally think that the build videos ease your mind that you are building the heli correctly. When I started building mine, I questioned my interpretation of the manual that comes with it. Since it is originally written in another language then translated it is easy to miss little side notes, and then you wonder if they switched all the build notes to english or not. Bottom line it would just be a resource to make sure you get it right for that first flight and make you feel more comfortable in your building skills. It may also save you that trip of phone call the the LHS to ask that one question that makes you sound stupid to the rest of the pilots.

Now, as of last night, I get to build mine again. Was doing some of my first stall turns (which I shouldn't have been doing yet anyway) and after coming out of my third turn, I lost orientation at stuffed it into the ground at full speed. Off to the hobby store to get parts after work today and start on the rebuild tonight. Amazingly enough, as hard as I planted it into the flying field, it really held together pretty well! I am even more impressed with the quality of hirobo now more than ever!

Well as I am the proud owner of a brand new Freya 90 I'd be happy to do a build vid, but for 3 things. One, no vid cam. Second, it could take me YEARS to accumulate all the cash this thing is going to require to get flying:bawl.
And third, chances are I'd get it all wrong. While my evil twin might think it's funny to be responsible for hundreds of Evos going down due to following my build advice, I can't afford the lawsuits.

Sigh....

Before the WWW, the internet and video cameras we built helicopters just fine. I can't imagine why anyone needs a build video when the instructions are perfectly satisfactory. If we needed a build video for everything in life I can't imagine how Thomas Edison invented the light bulb or the phonograph. Part of the success factor in this hobby is the struggle of finding things out for yourself. The infinitesimally small amount of pain that may cause is the spark that stays with us and gives us comfort and knowledge.

That's basically my view as well. Hirobo manuals are pretty darned good (besides, I speak English, Engrish and Japanese...) but some of the other brands can have you scratching your head for hours. Especially for people new to helis.

While looking over my Trex 450 manual the other night when I was trying to shoehorn some new servos in I found it made a better coaster for my beer than a source of info. I put Bob on in the background and drew on my fading memory to make sure I got everything right.

The "build vids" help keep a lot of people from washing out which in the end is good for us all. The more helis sold, the more we have to choose from. Not only that but it pretty boring flying alone.
