finally finished the DTS mod with the carbon frame.

moving the elevator servo allowed room to mount the battery on the receiver tray, therefore giving the heli much better roll characteristics.

this is my first time posting pictures so I'm not sure how they will turn out.

EXCELLENT WORK!!!

did you fly it yet?

hovered it in the carport (thats when I found out my gyro was upside-down...moved it and it works fine now) but the weather was crappy yesterday (kinda weird for hawaii). I hope to fly today after work.

just while hovering I did notice that it seems to be more responsive and it definately is less 'sloppy', meaning it could hold a no-stick hover for alot longer than before the mod.

Mike, I definately agree the Belt looks pretty sweet with the DTS mod.

my friend, who flies a Trex 450 and 500, was over last night and commented, "it's starting to look like a real heli now!"

Looks lovely that! You just need to get rid of that fibreglass canopy mount with the trex 450 metal ones! I think i will get those servo mounts and do this to mine

A couple of pics of my modified DTS mod - works very well and I am now getting +9/-9 degrees approx.

lookin' pretty sweet!

I like how you used the extra piece of plastic to bridge the area that needs removed for the servos.

It's been a while that i viewed this modding post but I was happily surprised about the skills you guy's presented in doing this mod (even with one hand) :noteworthy

Well, I used your design initially, Erwin, and yesterday modded what I had done to get greater servo arm moment. It handles so much better than before the DTS mod.

Hi, I have the stock BeltCP and it appears that after a crash the elevator servo is damaged - other items have already been fixed/replaced (blades, feathering shaft, flybar holder, boom) - anyway, all servos seemed to be functional but I was having trouble getting things re-trimmed and now I'm not getting any activity from the servo at all. What advantages to replacing with different servos than stock ESky but staying with the stock Tx and Rx? Recommendations on brands?
I haven't done any mods before and that raises the question about difficulties and advantages there are in the DTS mods. Realizing that there is a part of this hobby that is involved with tinkering and mods... I still would like to learn to fly first so I think the best plan for me at this point is to get things up and running ASAP.
Suggestions? Advice?
Has anyone put together a complete 'tune it up before you try to fly it' set of instructions... like a 'BeltCP for Dummies' book?
Thanks,
D

Don, welcome to THE Belt CP forum.

There are many things you can do to the belt - as the threads here show. Of particular note is the "Compatible Trex parts" thread, which gives you an idea of what we can upgrade. As regards servos, most opt for the TowerPro sg90, a straight fit, and easy upgrade.

We aim to help here, so leave no query un asked!!!!!!!!!

Hi
Just realised I hadn't posted any details of my DTS mod on this site.

I used a slightly different approach from the other mods on this thread. I only did the back two servo's because on mine the front link is smooth and slop free so I didn't reall see the point. Instead of using stock brackets I fabricated my own from a plastic condenser cover
from a car radiator but any suitable plastic or ally angle section would do as well.

The plastic is Just over 2mm thick and is very strong, it feels like the same stuff the frame is made of which seems to be standing up to my beginners knocks really well.

I feel the overall appearance is better than the off the shelf brackets as the 90 degree
angle looks part of the heli and not like an obvious add on.

I may make another pair with slightly different dimensions, if you notice the servo's are set a little wide in the mounts on these.

Also the UGT 05 swash plate I used is very wide and throws the links out of line slightly.
It's not enough to adversly affect its function but If I can find a smaller one with the AR pin on the right side I will be able to reduce the servo throws accordingly and that will reduce any differential induced negative expo caused by the servo arc..

Still I am pleased with it for a first attempt and it only took a few hours to do.

The heli definately flies much better with the mod:thumbup::thumbup:

All the best Ian

Very good job Ian...... your copter looks the biz, and that metallic blue head is much more in keeping than my pinkt pEsky CNC stuff.

It's great quality stuff for the price Mike though could do with finding a more appropriate swash, May get the pesky one and re anodise it.

I know I keep on about this Copter X head but it's such a bargin and I'm sure my heli flies as well as most Trex 450's

For some reason, I seem to be have poor pitch control. Roll is fine, as is collective, but the pitch is really much less responsive. All the servos are ok, swash is nice..mmmmmmm??????????

Pitch = Collective..

you mean you have poor elevator control.. Thats becuase of the play in those links you never did the front servo.

Hello Ian
Nice mod and very good pics. I like it ,its much easier to change a servo if bad things happen to it

[quote=DierWolf;661124]Pitch = Collective..

Sorry Wolfie, "returning back to type", as we say. Collective pitch was fine, it was elevator pitch which was reduced. All fine now after a bit of silicone oil lube and relaxing a couple of nuts, if you pardon the expression!!!!!!!!!!

I have been lurking on other forums and the SG90s have been coming up as a replacement for the ESkys 0500. Another suggestion has been DY (Dong Yang) 9gm units even cheaper than the SG90s. Anyone had any experience with the DY units?
