View Full Version : A different perspective on sims...

I have had Phoenix for at least 3 months now and it is my favorite sim hands down. BUT, I feel like that those who say that Phoenix is the "LIGHT and the WAY" and that all others sims are sh*t are a little misguided. All sims are close to the way a real heli flys, but NO SIM is EXACTLY the way your heli flys. Therefore, I feel as though while finding a sim that suits you is important, it is MORE important to take the skills learned on a particular sim and be able to adapt them on other sims/RL until they become second nature.
i.e., it does no good for me to learn something in Phoenix (or RF or whatever) and then not be able to extend that to real flight, phoenix, REAL LIFE, aerofly or whatever.
As a matter of fact, I have kept my RF G3.5 for this reason: practicing maneuvers in Phoenix and learning to adapt them to realflight, only enhances/eases my ability to take those maneuvers to REAL LIFE. Thoughts?

Yeah, I got a thought.
You are one of those 'smart' guys doc, you think too much, just fly the durn thing! :)

ha! I'm having too much fun tonight having a drink or two and getting light on the keyboard. Wayne, you know I like to mouth off every now and again. And tonight it wasn't even at plankers!

haha smart guy, where's the cure for pnuemonia??
I just might need it. *sigh*
back on track, I will break down and get Phoenix.. one day.

I will break down and get Phoenix.. one day. You need to get one ASAP because that way we can fly together. You can pair up in groups and have a blast. We can get Teamspeak and talk while flying. This is just to cool. I have mine on the way to me from UK.

As long as it comes with a cure for bronchitis, I'll take it. I did the pneumonia thing last year and the bronchitis thing earlier this week (still recovering) and they were both loads of fun...NOT!

Not a doc but....
Years of experience with Bronchitis and pneumonia..
A Pneumonia is usually a neglected bronchitis.
So my advice is to start medication once you get the very first symptoms of Bronchitis, also called "a cold"... ;)
A simulator is not real, and will never be real IMHO.
They do their best to come as close as possible, but they picked one of the hardest things to simulate.
Many things are involved that would need super computers to calculate the proper figures.
Aerodynamics, wind/weather/thermal, etc.etc.
Instead they use simple (compared to reality) physics engines to simulate it.
Most important for me is that it's fun and it programs my hand-eye coordination.
And the heli's/planes react "normal" to my stick inputs.
PhoenixRC does that very well IMHO.
I do hope though that PhoenixRC will get even more real in the future.
So please keep working the physics.

Oh yeah, Wayne's my best bud in this hobby. I don't care if he does refuse to come to NC to fly with me... really, I mean it....

I was born and raised in NC - I miss that place... and am now one of those damn yankees... I feel like such a traitor... well only for a second cause its kinda cool here where there is a bar on every corner, super models constantly walking down the streets, and the smell of pee at every subway station  and I have an apartment full of helis that I can't fly in my back yard because, well, I don't have a back yard.... :arggg:
Anyway, Phoenix is pretty darn awesome. They are currently pushing the limits of physics and graphics realization compared with anything else I have seen. I know this because when I crash a heli in Phoenix, and my sound is turned way up, I cringe as if it were in real life. :YeaBaby: Seriously though, the sound in Phoenix could still use some improving.
Ok, maybe next time before I post, I will not spend so much time at the bar on the corner. Its just that I left my Tx on overnight, found my battery dead, and there was nothing else to do. Duh!
