View Full Version : How do I treat my belt before assembly?

I am just starting my build and have 100% silicone, food grade spray.

Should I soak the belt down thoroughly before assembly for a couple of days to let the oil really soak in (then wipe most off when installing) or should I just spray the belt once before installing it and call it done?

Thanks,
Allen

I don't think you suppose to make soup with it but just sprinkle a bit. I assume you are trying to do this for static. The belt is not all you will need to treat. Look at pics on post 139. Enlarging the hole will help with the belt rubbing too much and the creation of static.

My initial thought was not for static, but for belt wear. My belt split after 40 flights on my 450SEV2 and I had been lubing it regularly. However, the silicone may help with static so that is an added benefit.

I definately plan to enlarge the boom where the belt exits

Thanks for the link
