In the Stratus upgrade plans, I noticed that it looked like they had the 9.3 gearing for an expert.

Does MA make a 9.3 upgrade kit?

Yes! At least Rick's has the 9.3 clutch plates available.

MA has several gear ratios. The gear ratios that come stock in the helis can be bought.

An Expert is upgradeable to a Stratus also. Just a few more parts will have to be purchased to do it.
The Tempest style clutch driver bearing block is needed.
The one piece bearing block that goes below the main shaft is needed. This is the bearing block that supports the tail rotor transmission shaft also.

Those are two parts right off the top of my head I can think of. There may be a couple of more that will be needed that does not come in the conversion kit.

I don't know if the engine mount plates or ratio plates are availilbe. I just ordered a .60 stratus conv. kit with 9.3 plates from ray's he told me Tiim was working on it. He didn't have them made yet. Unless there is a short cut with a 8.45 kit.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm converting an older Extreme now. It looks like those are the only two parts that I would probably need in the new kit as well. The fan would probably be optional in a .60 kit, since the dampners would probably be overkill for a .60.

You will most likely need PN 120-8 Bearing block for the main shaft and TR output unless you have it already. The Stratus frames are made for this block ONLY. Guess how I know.

Part Number: 120-8
Bearing Block Assembly w/ Bearing
Price: $39.95

The 8.45 is 93/11
9.3 is 93/10

There is only like .030 difference in the ratios. The 8.45 11 tooth pinion needs .030 more distance to mesh with the 93 tooth main.

A touch with a dremel tool with a cutting bit can make what is needed in the plates quickly.

But will the backplate get the ys61 high enough? Never measured it against my .91

But will the backplate get the ys61 high enough?

Might have to use some washers to space it the required height. Or even another piece of carbon. But I would not think it would be a problem to get it to work.

Looking at the specs of the YS 61 ST2 and the YS 91 ST.
The specs appear to tbe the exact same.
68.5 mm from the center of rear mounting hole on each side to the nose of the crank case.

I would think both motors would go in the Stratus with the same mounting hardware.

I know tim is making some plates for the .61-70 engine size stratus conv.
Because of my order so they will be availible soon. I hope. No need for a dremal tool and washers.
