View Full Version : The Gaui's out of gas

Almost done with my build. Spin it up (no main blades); motor sings along for a minute at maybe 40% headspeed, then sputters, picks up, sputters again, slows down, picks up, sputters, sputters, sputters, finally stops running. Sounded exactly like it was running out of gas. For awhile everything worked but the motor. Now I see the receiver (AR6100) is sputtering; it slowly moves the pitch servo up before quitting. When I re-plug the battery, it no longer initializes. Most of my wires are bundled in the vicinity of the receiver and many are actually touching the ESC. Could this be an issue? Before I start dismantling things, anyone else had this happen?

Yikes... hmmmm well I have my electronics all packed together, my esc is touching my ar6100 and ar6000 on another gaui, also the gyros & batt are rather close to everything as well, haven't had any electronic issues.

How's the battery? it sounds like esc cutoff due to low juice?

How is your ESC located in relationship to the receiver?

:DOH That's it exactly! Never occurred to me. 1) I had only a few minutes of bench time on the battery, and 2) I'd never heard what happens when it gets low. Thanks!

surf,

don't let your batteries go below 6 volts, assuming you are using 7.4V

Not sure what you mean. Mine are 7.4v. Full charge shows 4.2v; low is 3.4v-3.6v; damage will occur below 3.0v.

you should pm pinecone for any battery or charging questions. that guy knows his stuff.

my gaui 7.4V:fly 800 mah batteries measure 8.2 volts when fully charged. i love them

What kind? Where do you get them?

here...sometimes. you have to look around. your voltages sound really low.

Hmm Interetsing.

Slightly related but... I have 2 battery types the 'APLUS' 11.1v 3 cell 900MA, and some 'KONG POWER' 7.4v 800 2 cell ma. Not sure why but when i use the 3 cell i get her into a hover and after about 2 mins she cuts out, but when i use the 2 cell i get like 6 min flight times. I Noticed on 2 cell she sounds much smoother, on 3 cell you really notice alot more power but she doesnt sound as smooth (this prob to do with the higher headspeed).

Is it becuase the 3 cell is 20c rating rather than 10c (as is with the 2 cell), and my motor is draining the battery so much quicker, but because the 3 cell is only 50ma more than the 2 cell it runs for such a shorter time

Regards

Remember newer to charge/discharge more than 80% of the capacity.
640mAh would be max in "our" case

7,4 volts is the "nominal" voltage, 3,3 is minimum and 4,2 volts is maximum pr. cell giving this battery a max voltage of 8,4 volts.

Exactly, thanks. I woke up in the night thinking about this and realized my measurements were per cell, not per pack.

try backing off on your throttle curve when using 3 cell.
