Review of the new JR X9303 TX Screen Protector from RC Screen Protectors - http://www.rcscreenprotectors.com/.

RC Screen Protectors has made a new screen protector specifically for the JR X9303 and it fits perfectly!

When I bought my X9303, I purchased their 9303 screen protector, but discovered it is a little small for the X9303 screen which is larger and has an open edge of about 1/16" all the way around the screen.

So I talked with Bill at RC Screen Protectors about the size of the protector and he said that the screen protectors are cut slightly smaller than the screens, usually 1/16", to help with installing them. This slight size difference does make installation easier, as most screens go all the way to the edge and usually a little under the edge of the housing.

We discussed making a larger protector for the X9303 screen and he said he might be able to make a screen protector that fits all the way to the edge of the screen. I asked him to let me know when he had some made and I would purchase one from him to try out.

I got an email from Chuck at RC Screen Protectors a few days ago and he sent me some to test for them. The new one fits perfectly.

Installing was easy. I used the bump in the middle at the top of the screen for lining up the protector and used some paper tape at the left and right ends for handles.

I've included two images of what the slightly smaller 9303 screen protector looked like when installed on the X9303, and two images of the new X9303 screen protector installed.

Ignore the discolored dots you see on the last two images, they are tiny air bubbles that will dissipate quickly on their own.

Hope this will be beneficial. They are great folks to do business. It's a good product and well worth the modest price to protect the screen on your expensive radio!

Mearlin.

Yeah, I complained about the fit of the original ones. They did give me a replacement for the one I messed up playing with it. And NOW they bring out ones that fit exactly. :)

Ok, its official, I like them :Bang

However, I see why they give you two to a package. I was pretty sure I had cleaned the LCD pretty well when I put the first one on, but nope, several little bits of 'junk' under the laminate.

I just ordered them for my 9303. Thanks for wasting the first one for all of us. Hopefully I will clean my LCD really well before I try it. ;)

You can use some paper tape to pick the film back up. Take some of the tape and put it around the head of a pencil or something with the sticky side out, you can use that to remove the junk from the film.

Don't let the air bubbles fool you though, they can look like junk.

Thanks to this thread I just ordered them for my new X9303 last week and received them about 3 days later. Just got around to putting one on this afternoon, and it went fairly well with one exception... I got two big air bubbles because I accidentally let the ends go too quick (I was holding by the very edge and they slipped out of my fingers). I tried masking tape to lift a corner back up but never could get it to lift. All I succeeded in doing was getting masking tape "sticky" on the new screen cover! :arggg:

Anyway, I very carefully lifted one corner with a sharp #11 X-Acto knife and let the air bubbles out properly, then removed the sticky stuff from the tape with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag, so all is now well on the first try and I have a spare if I ever need it.

Final result? This thing actually improves the clarity of the screen! Totally amazing, and well worth the $12.95!!!

Hello Bill,

Thanks for the feedback. When we first started we had a long discussion about putting two in the package. Our thinking was, modelers would be very disappointed if they bought our product and had trouble applying their first Screen Protector only to find one in the package. If done correctly the first time, you will have a spare. If folks have trouble on the first, they will still have a good chance of having their transmitter protected with the second protector. (In fact, if folks still don't have a Screen Protector on their transmitter after two attempts, let me know.)

About the air bubbles... The easiest technique is to just wait a day or two and see if they don't migrate out on their own. I would have never thought of it but one day while talking to our film engineers, they mentioned that because the film doesn't "stick" like tape, the bubbles will migrate out over time. In general, your Screen Protector will look its best after having been on for a few days.

I also asked our engineers about finger prints. They said that, in general, it's not the touching that leaves the print... It's the oils on you finger that keeps the film from wetting out correctly that causes the problem. Simply washing your hands to remove the oils will greatly reduce the odds of leaving a finger print.

Thanks again bronicabill.

Yes, I washed my hands thoroughly before putting it on, which is one reason I accidentally let it slip out of my fingers the first time (I had little "grip" left on my fingertips due to no oil), but no fingerprints were left behind so the final result is nearly perfect. There is a tiny imperfection in the corner I had to lift with the knife, but it is so small as to be practically unnoticeable, and certainly not enough for me to bother putting the other one on! If I were doing it again I would use some low tack tape on each end to hold the film while applying, which I actually thought of doing the first time, but I was in too much of a hurry to take the time to get the tape out. Ended up wasting more time in the process, but that seems to be the way I work all too often! :)

Thanks for an awesome product, and the quick shipping!!!

Man, I need to browse these threads a little more. I just discovered little specks all over my Dx-7 and couldn't figure out for the life of me where they came from. I have been plastering myself with Deep Woods Off to keep the gnats away. I just ordered the protectors and hope I can find one of these products to clear up the screen.

I ordered these for my 12X and they've been just stuffed in the bottom of the case for a while. I finally got around to installing one and it is amazing! Super easy and the result is essentially perfect.

Now, where can I buy the same type of protector for my Treo phone? The ones that I have used aren't nearly as nice.

My radio came with its own protection film, but it's not clear (just a little hazing, foggy, cloudy, or whatever you think.) Is this film totally clear? I'm OK with the original one that come from the JR manufacture.

The one that comes on your radio is nowhere near as clear and the RC Screen Protectors version! It is crystal clear after a day or so, and actually looks better than the screen without any protector on it!

+1 :Bang on these protectors. I bought a set for my DX7 and a set for the XP9303 and they work great. When doing adjusting at the field, the buckle on the neck strap would lay on the LCD screen and start to scratch it.......now I don't have to worry.

These are nothing like the protective film that goes over the LCD faceplate, they are crystal clear, and you get TWO!!!! Only problem I had was on the XP9303, either the protector wasn't cut right in the corner or the glass is not 100% flat, so I have a lift in the corner. Same result with both in the kit, but no big deal.

Would it be easy to remove? Just in case whenever you cratch and want to replace it. Thanks.

Simple to remove, AND LEAVES NO GLUE behind (which is super important)!!!

I found the simplest way to remove, is stick a piece of masking tape in one corner and pull. You can also reposition them very easy, if you screw up, and don't center it correctly. (cough cough don't ask :) )

The one that comes on the screen, is not supposed to remain on the radio in use, it is just to protect the screen during manufacture and shipping.

Yep, it does its' job to protect the screen from minor cratches.

After applying these types of films to other devices, I have found that it's best to apply the film the restroom. Turn your shower on full hot and let the room fog up. The humidity will greatly reduce the amount of particulate in the air. Turn the A/C off for a minute while you put the film on in case it kicks on and blows in some dust. I just ordered a set for my new X9303... can't wait!
