My Toshiba P4 2.4G w/1 G RAM does it okay.. don't expect shadows though, it won't happen.
Most will have problems chopping at less than 512K Ram unless you turn off a lot of features like backgrounds.

Many laptops with modern graphics cards will run G3 just fine. By modern I mean Radeon [9200, 9600, 9700, 9800 or X series] or GeForce [5600, 5700, 5800, 6200, 6600, 6800] based card. For the time being stay away from the Radeon IGP chipsets. We have heard that it won't work, but we haven't got a laptop to test with yet. This is something we're working on.

The current version of G3 only does shadows on cards that support pixel and vertex shaders. Almost any recent graphics card will do shaders and will work fine with shadow quality set to low [only showing shadows for your aircraft].

I assume you mean 512MB of system memory. I don't understand everyone's need to have the graphics quality at highest. If you set all of the quality settings to low or medium and the terrain/tree density to 0% even a desktop radeon 9000 will get 30fps or better.
I believe that I will be doing the graphics card compatibility stuff in the future. this means I'm personally responsible for getting the sim [including shadows] to work on older cards.

I run G3 on my Dell XPS M170. The computer doesn't even break a sweat its awesome and the 17inch screen is a bonus. If your handy you can buy an old dell 9300 or 9400(E1705) and upgrade the video card for less than half the price of an XPS.
