OH MAN.... I gotta say flew the snot out of my logo500 today... Pack after pack.

550mm blades are the way to go. I HAD to mod my JAZZ ESC with a heat sink though and even then it is still getting hotter than I like (about 145F) but I think it is now in the "safe" zone.

Needless to say I have a new 500+ sized heli that I FREAKIN LOVE...
Control level beyond expected and tracks like it's on RAILS with 550's.... and SMOOTH when you want it to be... :banana

Also it took me some flight time to get use to how freakin LIGHT this heli flys! I was over pitching being use to heavy helis like the 600E expecting I needed that much pitch to do something. MAN once I started getting dialed in with the feel of this thing... HMG... PURE LOVE! :D

Seriously guys... Since getting this thing my 600E hasnt seen air! It may not ever again unless I go 8S or something. The JAZZ doesn't give you an insane head speed but can it deliver power. I realized you don;t need insane head speed to have a LIGHT kick butt flying heli! MAN... Soooo Impressed!

Nice to hear you got her dialed in and she impressed you.
What roll rate are you using?

I am on the same page Bob. The 500 is my favorite and my primary heli. I have six packs now and go through them as often as I can. The bird is very light, powerfull, and stable. I am in the process if tweeking my Vbar unit and all I can say is if you like your flybar version, wait untill you start messing with one of these.

That's great Bob:thumbup:

I knew you would experience it as a different animal after going to the 550's. It just needs it to carry the weight of the 5000mah+ packs.

What blades did you use and how do you like them?
Any other areas of tuning/improvement that you plan to pursue?

I'm still very happy with mine and only see flybarless in the upgrade path.

Excellent info Bob. I was pretty much sold on the logo 500 (600 doesn't fit my budget) anyway but your opinion sealed the deal. Thank you.

Any reason you chose the 500 over the 600, or was that what was given to you?

Sweet. I always wanted to know what Bob thought of the Logo 500. Looks like I will be going this route over the T-Rex 500 and the Hurricane 550 for sure! Great to hear Bob. Post a video review with some of your "sport" flying dude!

Roll rate? What do you mean? I have mine set up pretty fast with 20% expo for slow stuff....

Yes the 500 was sent to me by Mikado to shoot build videos nothing more. I bought all the electronics myself. My opinion of it flying is as always... My opinion and the opinion was not paid for :) I LOVE THIS THING!

Actually I do need to do this and post another flying review with the 550s... So you know I can fly a lot better than what you see in my review vids. The reason my first flight reports are so lame is because it's a NEW heli and I don't have the balls! There I said it :)
But I can do a little better than "sport' flying ;)

I only had Raptor 550's and these worked OK. Kevin loaned me his rotortech 550's and I like those a lot. BUT I would love to try some V's, SAB's, etc and other blades until I find what I like even better!
Tweaking wise... Putting a heat sink on the JAZZ ESC was a MUST DO!.... I got the Curtis Solid G working well now but I want to tweak with it a little more as I am sensing some drift in slow backwards inverted.

Other than that seriously as anyone from my area that was there today will tell you.... I LOVE this heli now and it is top of my list to fly any weekend... The "floater almost hovering" autos had people in disbelief! Thats what a LIGHT heli can do! Even my Vibe 90 I could never float auto like I can with this thing!

Nice Bob! Glad your getting to feel the high i've been riding for the last few weeks. What motor did you end up putting in there? If you get a chance try some of the Rotortech 560 angle tips. I'm super impressed with them. ASFAIK V's don't make 550s anymore which would be nice.

BTW, I was having problems with my Jazz overheating at first as well. I had mine mounted the same way you showed in your vid with the label facing out. After flipping it over I have not had any issues yet and it's running much cooler. I do have a heatsink ready to go should it have problems once the summer heat rolls through.

Yes, the Rotortech 560s are awesome. Since they have a wider chord than the 550s (53mm vs 51mm) they have more bite when you punch it. I think I need to get a secondary pair in case anything happens to my current ones.

Bob, glad to hear that you like the Logo 500 and that its flying so well. Didn't you say previously you were running the EVOlite 6S 5350? If so, what do you think of them compared to the EVO25 5000?

Yea for the flybared 5003D the 560mm Rotortechs are the best period, and for the Vbar the 550 RTs for sure, "SO FAR", I have heard rumours of Radix and Vs' getting into the 500mm range, we can only hope for more options. Glad you are enjoying the 5003D Bob, I knew you would like it once you got it dialed in to your liking. :thumbup:

I've been using MAH 516s and they are quite a heavy blade but make it very smooth - with 516 Rotortechs the thing came alive - didn't get much joy with the generic 550 CFs I tried but will get some 550 RTs. It is an awesome heli but Bob you gotta try the 600 too - absolutely unfreakinbelievable - wants to float off even on half spool up - rock steady in the air, stops on a dime and I dont have the balls to fly it at max FFF (my mate does but he's fearless and gets his parts subsidised)

Hey Bob, I know your a good pilot for sure man! You had said somewhere before you have a little different style of flying then the hardcore 3D freaks. I thought you had called it "sport" flying.

Take a look at these numbers. I figured out the ratio of weight to rotor disc area, or the disk loading of the following helis. The units are in Kg/m^2.

Logo 500 3D (2kg/1.112m^2) = 1.64
Logo 600 3D (3.09/1.651) = 1.87
T-Rex 450 SE V2 (0.73/0.385) = 1.90
Hurricane 550 (1.9/0.968) = 1.96
T-Rex 600 (3/1.431) = 2.10
T-Rex 500 (1.7/0.739) = 2.30

The Logo 500's loading is almost 30% less then the T-Rex 500. That's a considerable difference! All of these numbers are from one e-store and will vary with equipment used of course. Just though I would share the numbers with the Helifreaks.

Bob, or other Helifreaks - do you notice the difference in disk loading through "feel" in the the Helis that you owned from the list?

Hey Bob, it sounds like we are all interested in your setup. I know most of this is in your videos but it would help to have a rundown of your current setup. Can you post a full list of what you're running; motor, pinion, esc, bec, battery, servos, blades, etc.?

I have the Rex 450, 600, and I've flown my father's T500 a good number of times. In a word, YES you can tell a huge difference in the disc loading on the L500 compared to the Trexes. The Logo has a float factor that let's you hang certain positions where the others would already be sliding towards mother earth.

Got a chance to fly Bob's L500 yesterday as well. First impression was "This thing is LIGHT!". Like it almost as much as my Vbar Trex500. Now I can't wait to finish my Vbar Logo500.:YeaBaby:

How about some thoughts about the 500 from a complete rookie.
I have been flying about 4 months. Been flying a 450 se. I have a good solid hover, can do small circuits. Beginning to work on nose in hover.

I bought a 500 from one of the people in this thread, when they moved up to the v-bar.

I flew 5 packs yesterday. What a great heli. Hovers much easier than the t-rex.
It took 2 packs to quit being nervous( this was a big step for me). After that it was fun!

The 450 will be put up on the shelf for a while, so I can enjoy my new heli.

Hope you enjoyed a different perspective.

Also, thanks to all the guys who contribute to Heli Freak. It has made my learning process enjoyable.

Kevin is a hard core PERFORMANCE monger.... I myself am not. Not trying to brag but I like trying to learn to fly a heli and "use" what it's got. Learned this "habbit" from low lift slope glider flying.... This is why it took me freakin 5 flights to get use to this Logo500 on 550's!!!! I was over pitching on many maneuvers and over cyclic too! I was amazed how "easy" this thing flew and the freakin power in gov mode with the jazz... Those that feel they need a crankin ass head speed DON'T need it in my opinion!

OK Kevin flew mine and he loves power. Not that he is bad on collective management (well he can be but wasnt) but the guy LOVES power! He absolutely felt the lightness of this heli. This is why he is building a V-bar 500 baby! He knows good performance as I do :)

Then why did my flight came down with a cooler motor and battery pack than yours?.... Good collective management.;)

LOL easy kids, show da love! Kevin I know you'll be tweaking and perfecting the Vbar stuff on yours likely beyond what I'll ever figure out with it. Just remember if you need help with anything at all we are here to try to help you. :)

Hey Fireup, what motor you thinking about running in your 500? I'm sure whatever it is your going to go with a nutty power system. Seems if you can't get one of the new scorpions just yet, the Orbit would be right up your alley.

Bob - Are you still running the A40-10L Mikado provided or have you gone with something else for the 550 setup?

Finless
04-08-2008, 02:55 PM
Kevin I still think it is because when my timer goes off I do a long hard climb out for an auto and that is why I am coming down hotter. Only way to see if that is the case is to not do an auto and see how hot it is. That's my story and I am sticking to it :)

As for my setup here we go

Servos = S9252
Gyro = Curtis Solid-G with 9254 tail servo
Motor = Hacker A40-10L 8 pole with 16T pinion
ESC = JAZZ with heat sink mod.
Radio = X9303 with AR7000 RX
Battery = Flight Power Evo Lite 5350 and a TP 5000 V2

I think that covers it.

Bob
