So,
I can’t believe how well this flight went. Before you watch you should know this is literally my third outdoor flight session ever, each with two batteries, a stock E-flite 1800mAh & a Flight Power 2170mAh 3S. My first flight is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqmvbZf1P20 & the second was in my parent’s back yard about 20x20ft a few days ago. Today I flew the 1800mAh first with training gear, just back and forth FF flight and then filmed the second after cutting off the training gear. I’ve had the bird since January 23rd of this year. I’ve hovered in my apartment about 10 times. I’ve upgraded her with three JR DS286MG’s, a GY401 and a JR DS3400g on the tail, along with a pair of Align 325mm carbon fiber blades with mini Titan rotor spacers (TTRP V0829). I had to setup everything from info on the net after the upgrades, thank you Finless and the members here.

All I can say is the sim time really counts… allot. This is the 2170, I pulled my first 3D flight easily right after taking the gear off. I did a roll a few flips. I should say I did give it a quick test flight and did a single flip and lowed the Gyro gain before the video. I’m a gamer so I do have fairly good control of my thumbs, which is how I fly thumbs only, so maybe that helped. Going from G4 to this I can say it’s pretty darn close and I’m very impressed how close the two act. I use the Ion-X from pack1, it seems the closeset to B400.

The wind was pretty calm when I started but just as I decide to pull two back flips the wind speeds up and I nearly do a nose dive. Even with the wind picking up I think I did a pretty good job. I also have a pretty close call near the end when I pull a quick diving turn with the wind at it’s back. Having only been flying CX2 since Nov the CPP since Dec for about 10 seconds at a time and getting G4 late in January, I think I did a really good job of staying on top of the controls, did I do okay? About seven minuets of flight, enjoy.

Wow, good, I really suck, I have had mine longer than you, and I still can't do that stuff, I tried a little slow FF today, and ended up crashing during my 5th flight.

Oh, well back to the sim, and more practice for me.

Good flying, hopefully I will get there soon.

Thanks all. Sorry to hear about the crash sd0, I really cannot believe how good I did. I was not expecting to do more than a little bit of back and forth but after the first battery I had to take off the training gear and see what I could do. I know the 3D is messy but I'll get better.
One question, when I did punch outs I got some tail wag and a little during fast FF, I just need to lower the gyro gain a bit right, or a notch of delay? I have 0 delay right now with the 3400g.

Congrats Max. Hopefully, my first flights will be as nice as yours. I have yet to even put a battery in mine. Trying to make sure I am as ready as I can be on the flight sim too before taking my heli out to the field.

That’s exactly what I did. It was hard to let the bird sit there while I flew G4, of course the weather didn't help or rather it did, not letting me fly. I few the sim just about every day for at least 30min the week leading up this flight. When I fly the sim I act just as I would if it were my own expensive heli on the screen. After about 30min of FF practice of course I would try some 3D and of course I would crash. In retrospect I probably shouldn't have tried the things I did, I probably got lucky, I think it's a fine line between knowing your limits and pushing yourself for that front flip. My rule of thumb is if I crash in the sim, I’ll probably crash in real life. You have to reach that point of comfort in the sim so your not nervous doing the real thing.

...I fly the sim I act just as I would if it were my own expensive heli on the screen...

That is what I do too. I have a timer set for 10 minutes (avg flight time from my understanding). I go through all my controls as if I am doing a pre-flight check (just to form good habits). Then I start my hover practice. I am going though all the training flights that I have read. Hopefully it makes for fewer crashes. Time will tell.
