View Full Version : Crashed today.
Well today started off great, I flew my T-rex 600 twice, and my Blade 400 5 times, which turned out to be one too many. I am just starting to do some FF, and I flew out about 50 feet from myself, about 25 feet up, then turned around and came back nose in, about 10 feet from myself I tried to spin it around and come to a nice tail in hover, but for some reason instead of doing that, I stuck it straight into the dirt.
Broken/Bent parts: Main shaft, feathering spindle, flybar, destroyed my Aling carbon fiber main blades, tail boom, canopy, stripped elevator and aileron servo. It's all back together now, but it is dark so I'll have to wait till next weekend to make a post rebuild test flight.
This is only my second crash of the B400 since I got it in January, but it still sucked. And it's the first time I fixed it, so I hope it all goes good.
Hope you all had a better day of flying than I did. Guess it's back to the sim, and some more tail in hovering for me for a while.
Will try to post some pictures of the carnage later.

OUCH!! sorry to hear of your crash. Had to rebuild a fence yesterday 'sides int was way too windy to fly anyhow....
Thanks LockMD, it's cool, today I ordered 3 HS-65mg's, and a HG-5000 gyro with servo, I'm tired of the stock electronics. After looking at the insides of the elevator servo, I'm not sure that it didn't strip in flight.
I hate flying with the feeling that something beyond my control will fail and cause a crash, it really messes up my confidence. So I will try this out, I have read that it will be like a new helicopter with this setup.
I'll let you all know how I like it.

Yes, it will. I have different upgraded parts. I thought this bird felt pretty nice outta the box until I stripped a servo and upgraded - WOW didnt think it could get better but it did! Keep us posted on how you like those particualer parts.
Hey LockMD, what servos/gyro do you have, I know you have said before but I'm to lazy to search. I did rebuild the stock servo's, but all they had at the LHS was gear sets for S75's, the guy there said they would work fine, but then I read on here they don't work.
Anyway, I think I will be a lot happier with my new stuff when I get it, I am also going to get new tail blade grips, I tightened mine all the way but they still seem to have a lot of slop in them, which was causing some tail wag.
I will let you know how the upgade goes when I get my stuff. Should be here Wed. from ReadyHeli.

I'm using jr 285's on the cyclic and 3400G on the tail with a GY401 gyro. Nice combo!

Until I started flyin' I never thought there would be A time when I would hate the earth..............
Had a bad crash saturday evening. Main gear and tail boom. Went to lhs to get one , and he was out of b400. I am now sporting align tail boom and and belt. Music wire tail rotor pushrod. It was a hoot to build and have flown all evening.
Sorry about the crash man.......
Sorry to hear about you crashing also, but I guess if you don't crash you aren't trying. I can hover all day long, but that gets old. But I still get kinda depressed about crashing, I was just starting to get over my nerves of flying, and the shakes were going away, and then I crashed. I hope next time will be good but I think my confidence level will be way low.
But I absolutley refuse to give up. And if I had to crash something, at least it wasn't the 600, that would be hard on the wallet too, but the B400 at least is very economical to repair.

Baby steps, I like you still way too nervous and shakey left thumb, have you tried using a neckstrap seems to help my thumbs some. If you have a yard try doing slow manuevers in it before going for the gusto.....just my nickle, thats how I am progressing anyhow, probably slower than others but crashes are minimal.

That is the rate at which I am moving. In fact, I am taking it so easy, that by the time I put a battery in my heli, they will have invented miniature men to actually climb in and fly the heli and I won't be needed any more. :rolling

LOL - okay well maybe not that slow
My backyard is pretty small, I have hovered it there a couple of times but the walls get close really fast, I usually fly behind my house, it is open land all around me. I just need to keep trying, and practicing more on the sim. On the sim I can do FFF till the batteries die, or it runs out of fuel, but this has not translated to real life yet.

sd0,
Hows the wind doing there in the south? Here in Central Ca and the bay the wind is very strong. Yah I can barely lift up my backyard.
Maybe we can fly sometime right LockMd.

Actually I've been flying in my backyard with these winds, a little challenging at times but its fun - havent had a crash since you were down last.......I know just jynxed myself, huh?
Hope you continue to fly better than me LockMD, no jynxing yourself like that.
My new servo's came today, I held off on the HG5000 gyro, now I don't know what Gyro/tail servo combo to get. I wish I could use a Solid G on the B400 but I don't know if I can. I have it on my 600 and it is awesome, so easy to set up, holds the tail perfect, doesn't even have rate mode, only HH, so obviously no rate mode setup required. Just tell it where you want left/right limit and where center is, what servo and heli and you are basically done. I might try it, but if I do I will have almost the purchase price of the B400 into servo's/gyro/tail servo.
Oh well, I knew this was an expensive hobby when I got started.
Good luck.

I was flying in Charlotte about a month and a bit ago. I bring my heli along with me quite often while driving around. BTW we put the 285's on my buddy's B400 with the 3400 on the tail. left the gyro stock for now. It holds quite well for him for what his ability is. When he starts doing 30 it will be changed but for now the problem was more to do with the servo than the gyro.

I had that setup at first too, the problem is you cant set limits with the stock gyro causing binding from the servo being able to move too far.
