Hey all,

I'm waiting for my first nitro to arrive in the mail (Raptor 50 v2) and want to get everything together that I'll need. I have a field box from my planks and with it an electric starter. It has the rubber for starting a cone-type prop. For the heli, I see that I need a starter extension/shaft. But I notice there are many types out there.

The engine is an OS 50 Hyper. What shaft should I get?

Is this cheap one ok? http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=803235

Or do I need a universal one like this: http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=101710

Or do you all recommend something else? I don't want to spend a lot if not needed.

Thanks,
Skarn

Get the cheap one.

This is the one I use: http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=805390
It will allow you to remove the start cup from your starter and thread the wand on the end of the shaft. I've been hit by the cup style ones, it hurts like hell when they come flying out at speed.

I agree with WayneBrown, get one that can be bolted to the starter. Over time, if you use one that you push into a starter cone, it will start to slip and may cause problems in getting your heli started.

What starter are you using? The reason I ask is because I found starters have different diameter shafts. The "hydratorque" heliproz sells has a larger diameter shaft then a sullivan starter, requiring a different extension. I am refering to the shaft that goes through the motor on the starter, not the extension for starting the heli.

The Raptor doesn't require a 1 way bearing, and you're not starting an oil laden 90 so fancy starting equipment really isn't required.

Also some of us bring a variety of aircraft to the field so the bolt on may not be appropriate for everyone.

FWIW I've never had a cup starter shaft slip when properly used.

I use a 7dlls starter shaft, a friend of mine uses a 40dlls starter shaft.... both do the THE SAME JOB...... it's up to you man....

I was more concerned with which one would "fit"/work. Like I said, I'm new to nitro and I saw a few that said "works with any Tiger Drive system. I don't know what that meant.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I ended up getting the one Wayne recommended...I ordered right after seeing his post ;)
