My copy of Phoenix arrived today. What do I need to know/do when flying Phoenix to make it as close as I can to what the B400 will feel like in real life. I have downloaded the B400 model from their website. What else can I do to make this training more beneficial?

not sure as I use Reflex, but here is a link to the Phoenix forum:

I have done some looking through there. Since that area is for the Phoenix, without regard to the heli, I thought I would ask here.

well if no one knows there, then I guess this would be the place. Wasn't complaining, just trying to get you more help (possibly) Let me know what you think of Phoenix, it was down to that or Reflex and now I'm second guessing myself that perhaps Phoenix would have been the better choice.

I find Phoenix to be very realistic in regards to helis. The Blade 400 in the sim is set up for +/- 13 degrees pitch on the collective. I edited mine to +/- 10 to match my setup and it flies pretty close to my real 400.
Having owned Aerofly Pro Deluxe and FS One I prefer Phoenix. I can't comment on Reflex as I have no experience with it.

I have phoenix, and I think it is great. They have great customer support too.
I am assuming you have a DX6i tx. You need to go in and setup a new model in your tx.
I am going on memory, but I think you have to use 90° ccpm instead of 120° mixing. The 120° mixing messes with the interface to the sim.
Setup your pitch and throttle curves just like you normally would, and all of you switches will work perfect.
Also,
check the website for all of the latest updates. I think they are up to 1.05h.
It is truly an awesome piece of software. It's a shame there aren't more distributors in the U.S.
Good luck and have fun...

You are correct about the swash mixing in Phoenix. The easiest way is to copy your programming for your real 400 to an empty memory slot in your radio. Change the swash type to 1 servo and it should work fine.

Welp, I ran home at lunch. Un-installed the demo and the other sims I had installed. I installed Phoenix. After that was complete, it walked me through the calibration and such on the first start up and I was done. Or so I thought. I fired it up, tried my throttle and for some reason a few things were backwards by default. That was a simple fix and then it all worked as it should.
All I can say about Phoenix is IT IS AWESOME! (Sorry, had to shout that)
I have never flown a B400 (yet) or any heli for that matter (successfully). But I must say, Phoenix sure feels accurate . I think what Phoenix really offers is more sensory stimulation. Hearing and seeing the blades break made close calls rush my pulse a little more than other sims I have tried thus far (some of the other sims allowed for what I felt were too violent of landings too).
They sent me the most recent version, no updates required (only took fours days to get it from europe too). It even had the B400 already in there. I love the fact I can shoot my local flying club field and send it in to them for a scene. That is a cool feature. May have to try to make one for my flying area at home too. My dogs sure are going to hate my computer even more now. One dog already knows that when Dad grabs his RC Tx he is gone for a bit.
Any pre-sale email I sent them was answered within hours. From what it appears, the customer service will continue. If you have a B400 and are looking at getting a flight sim, I highly recommend Phoenix.
I will try some of your ideas above this evening. Thanks for all your input.
I was so close to trying to hover this past weekend with my B400 for the first time. After today's brief look at flying the 400 via Phoenix, I am glad I did not. I think I will focus on trying to maintain control in the sim first and then start some hover work with training gear on the real thing.

Wasn't complaining
BTW - I didn't take your comment as complaining. ;)
Is it time to go home yet? [looks at clock, only 2:57 PM] How about now? [looks at clock, only 2:58 PM] What about now? [looks at clock, only 2:59 PM] ...Now? [looks at clock, only 2:30 PM]
Can you tell I'm ready to go fly my new sim? :fly

Helimix,
When I get down on my Desktop, I will send you my Blade 400 variant file. I have it setup about as close to the real thing as you can get ;).

HeliMix, can i ask where you got it from...
I purchased it directly from them online (http://www.phoenix-sim.com/purchase.htm) since I am in the US and there are no US distributors yet. It was painless and delivered to me in the in four days (but took five since FedEx does not deliver on Sunday).
It comes with the cord (you can order a cord for a variety of Tx's) and I was actually wrong in my earlier post , I did have to update it (no big deal, took no time).
i think Phoenix is the sim i want to get
Most definately! I give Phoenix :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: out of a possible :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:!

Chuck, go to the Phoenix online store and try to order it through them. Once you see what the postage is, you can still cancel the order. It was like you said, under 10 US to get it from GB to me here in the US. I recall seeing a pop up button where you could select your country. Maybe you can order it direct and save some $.

I bought mine through heliguy.com.
Not sure if the shipping is going to be any cheaper for you, but I think it cost me like $152.00 shipped to the U.S.
They were quick to get it shipped out too.
