I am new to helis. this blade is my first, and I finally got to fly it yesterday. :) ( I tried once before, nearly totalled it, and just got it back together) My gyro setting on my dx7 was at 64%, I have moved it up to 70%, but am still having the same problem with it wanting to wander. Any good ideas?

Unplug the Channel 5 tray it, see if it work any better.

I turn the gain adjustment to counter clock wise if you look at it from the rear until tail wag then I adjust to clock wise until tail wag is gone.

Mine also wander to clock wise tail in. I had to set like 40pts to the right rudder to keep it stright. I play with linkages and already bind up a servo doing that.

I have a telebee gyro now I'm going to try out. see if it work any better.

the stock gyro and tail servo kind of suck but you can get a little hold out of it
first you want to set your gyro setting to 50.0%
thin play with the gian on the gyro itself ontill the tail stops bouncing
win you have this set you want to rease you gyro setting till you git it to lock
it will still drift but thats the stock gyro and tail servo
i have my gyro set somwere in the 75.5 range and its as locked as its going to get
but i would say to get a GY401 gyro thats what im doing lol

After a big crash my stock gyro got whacked with a blade so I replaced it with the GY401 and servo combo. Now the heli really is rock steady. I'm really surprised out how much difference it really makes in the wind.

And a crash before that I stripped one of the stock servos and replaced all of the cyclic servos with Hitech HS65MG which also made a huge difference.

thanks. I stripped out a servo yesterday, might look at better servos. Can I just replace one with a different brand?

You definitely can. You're not limited to brand, just servo size. You definitely don't have to get the metal gears either, which could bring down the cost. My LHS sold the metal gears for around $50 each but they went down to around $32 each since that's what you can find them on the net for.

For the servo's I went with the Hitech HS-65MG. They were very very tight putting them in, but it fit. I heard that some people used a Dremel tool to mod the servo mounts, but I didn't. I had to work mine in the pockets, but it fit and works great. I also had to drill the servo arms to accept the ball joints. And I put the ball joints on the inside for the two servo's near the main shaft.

I only replaced my servo's because I had stripped my stock ones in a crash.

If you are talking about the cyclic servos, then NO you cannot replace just one of them with a different servo. All three should be the same.

Right...replace all 3 of them at the same time if you're going with different servo's. Sorry, I misread that. If you have different servo's for cyclic, then it'll be a pain to get them to move at the same time (swash mix, etc.). Be much easier to just replace all 3 at the same time with same make and model or just replace it with the original.

Any good, low budget suggestions? Also, what about an improved gyro. Everyone says go with the futaba 401, but it's 120-140 on ebay...looking for a good, cheap upgrade.

i would not go cheep on a gyro it will save you more money in the long run to just do it right the first time you have a good cheep gyro and now it needs to be changed lol
you are flying a $500 doller bird would you put stock tiers or a 500 hp car

i just did my first loop and a rollover today i love my 401 i dident even have to touch the tail lol just save your peanys you will love it to

What does anyone know about the jr g770? Also, do I need a better servo on the tail, or would the hs65mg be up to the task? I already know that my stock servo is a little slow...

I only have the Futaba 401 gyro and absolutely love it. Makes my heli fly like it's never flown before. I got mine from towerhobbies.com. They have a payment plan and even a "bill me later" option if you can get credit.

As for a cheap upgrade, I would just get whatever would fit...and then buy a couple extra's just in case. Or just stick with the stock servo's. That way you don't have to mess with the settings.

Thanks guys! I guess you are right... why would anyone on here steer me wrong? I am just having a tough time with the expense. I have just gotten into this and so far, all I have done is spend money and become efficient at fixing my blade. (My first attempt was ugly and heartbreaking) I did check my settings on the blade and got some good news. I had the gyro set on DS, might have been that way from the factory? Book says it will burn up the servo. Also, it helped out a lot for the incredible wag/drifting that I had. I really wish that I had someone local to learn from...these little tricks in setup make it much easier for a newbie to learn.:) I still think I will look into a high end gyro, when I can afford it.

That sucks...the one I just bought has possibly cheap servos...they are see-thru blue, with no stickers. They may be hitec, but I don't know... Also has telebee gyro. I plan to put it on my b4, and buy a futaba 401 for the rex.
