Hi Guys,

I noticed flying-hobby had these upgraded body retainers, hopign they wondt destroy the canopy like the stoc ones do!

Has anyone trued these yet. Also does anyone know of a way of taking the stock ones off without having to take the side frames apart, is there a screw driver out there for the job?

Regards

Darren

I seriously doubt that there is a tool out there for this job. The gap between the frame halves is just to small. Take the frame apart, if you try removing the retainers without taking the frame apart you will definitely strip the screws. It only takes about 30 minutes to disassemble, remove and replace the retainers, and put it all back together. I used trex 450 retainers and they work fine. I don't use the rubber grommets like your supposed to either, I mount the canopy without, and then put the grommets on the ends of the retainers to make sure the canopy can't come off. I don't care what type of retainers you use, those rubber grommets suck and make removing the canopy harder than it needs to be.

I use Trex 450 canopy standoffs. They works great. Same problem getting the stock ones out. I bent the philips tip on a cheap jewelers screw driver (supplied with Trex450 - or Radio Shack) so it fit between the frames. It worked fine and saved the hassle of tearing the whole thing apart.

I used the hole from one to slide the driver inline and tighten the other. For the remaining one, I held the screw with my finger to get it as tight as possible and kept twisting and it tightened up nicely.

Mine were murder. Loctited in. Had to dismantle the frame and then Dremel one off. Didn't help that my heli was already assembled, servos and wiring tied in, all that. Best time to do this is when the kit is brand new. That said, the results are great. These mounts should really be standard.

Just fittted mine the other week, yes had to take the frame apart, wasn't that differcult really just a little time consuming, I was lucky the old retainers came off easily. I used red locktite when I put the new ones on don't want them coming loose. witht he canopy I am using a walkera #4 canopy I have found that I don't need to push the grommets fully onto the new retainer seems to hold well just being pushed on lightly. ( but then I am not throwing mine around too much at the moment.
They are superior to the old ones worth.

My thoughts exactly.
